Alfred J and Maria ? Piatt
Alfred James Piatt was born in July of 1871 in Missouri. However, I show a year of immigration for him on the 1900 census and his father appeared to be foreign born. Alfred married c1899 Maria 'Minnie' ? who was born in April of 1876 in Missouri to German parents.
Alfred and Maria had the following known children:
- Alvera Piatt (daughter) b: c1901 MO (probably St Louis, St Louis Co, MO)
- Alfred K Piatt b: c1907 MO (probably St Louis, St Louis Co, MO)
I am sure that the 1920 census would show additional children born to this couple.
They appeared as follows on the 1900 census of St Louis, St Louis County, Missouri:
Piatt, Alfred James born Jul 1871 in MO / 28 on last bday / Year of immigration 1888
Piatt, Minnie (wife) born Apr 1876 in MO / 23 on last bday
At the time this family lived on Warren Street and was enumerated at 96/278/4/10.
By the 1910 census they were still in St Louis, but, had changed addresses:
- Piatt, Alfred J age 38 born MO / married 1 for 11 years / father born ?ENG/CAN/mother born MO / Caterer – Bakery & Rest
- Piatt, Maria (wife) age 32 born MO / married 1 for 11 years / father/mother born GER
- Piatt, Alvera (daughter) age 9 born MO / single / father/mother born MO
- Piatt, Alfred K (son) age 3 born MO / single / father/mother born MO
- Lorentz, Clara (servant) age 22 born GER / single / father/mother born GER / immigrated 1909
The family had moved and was enumerated 18 Apr 1910 at Westminster Place Sheet 6A.
In the 1911 Gould's St. Louis, Missouri General & Business Directory, Alfred and his business appear as follows:
- PIATT, ALFRED - sec AJ Piatt Bakery Co 415 Washington Ave r. 6188 Westminster Pl
- PIATT A.J. BAKERY CO 415 Washington Ave
I do not have the complete abstract from the 1920 census, however, I know the family was still there as Alfred appeared as a head of household as follows:
- Piatt, Alfred age 49 born MO
They were enumerated 103/573/11/5 (ancestry image 257). I do not know what that address correlates to. Perhaps they were still at Westminster Place?
