Ebenezer E Pyatt

Ebenezer E Pyatt was born c1813 in Tennessee and died June 9, 1865, in Fayette County, Illinois. He is said to be the son of Henry Pyatt and Rachel Ferrell. Henry Pyatt had come with his father (Ebenezer's namesake) and step-mother to Stewart County, Tennessee before 1804 (others say 1798). Apparently he married to Rachel Ferrell c1810 and had at least two children there before moving to Jackson County, Illinois with his father. Henry was first enumerated on the 1830 census in Hurricane Township, Montgomery County, Illinois. We can assume then that Ebenezer spent much of his young life in Hurricane Township and with the influence of his Pyatt relatives who lived in nearby Jackson County.

Ebenezer married first on April 28, 1836, in Montgomery County, Illinois, Mary Prater. Their bond was for 'Ebenezer Pyatt' and 'Mary Prater' vol 1 pg 46 license #273.

The known children of Ebenezer and Mary:

I'm surprised that I do not find Ebenezer and family indexed on the 1840 census. Were they living with a different head of household?

Mary apparently died and Ebenezer married second on January 6, 1842, in Montgomery County, Illinois, to Elizabeth Renshaw. Their marriage bond was for 'Ebenezer Pyatt' and 'Elizabeth Wrenshaw' vol 1 pg 81 license #524. Mary was born c1820 in Kentucky or Indiana.

Ebenezer and Elizabeth had the following known children:

They appeared as follows on the 1850 census of Fayette County, Illinois:

This family was enumerated #222/226 pg 351 on 14 Nov 1850 (ancestry image 30/194). Their neighbors were #219 Aaron Rush, #220 John Rush, #221 Joseph B Kirk, #223 Isaiah Widner, #224 Isaac Supener, #225 Ludwick Harrison, and #226 John Hinton. On pg 372 was Ebenezer's brother, John Pyatt. Other of Ebenezer's family were enumerated in Montgomery County, Illinois.

By the 1860 census of Vandalia, Sharon Township, Fayette County, Illinois, they appeared as follows:

The family was enumerated #1127 on 4 Aug 1860 (ancestry image 169/294). The writing was difficult to read – especially the ages. Neighbors were #1123 Benj ?Casland, #1124 Absolom Mason, #1125 ?Ledwick Harrison, #1126 Mary Wilson, #1128 Oliver Evans, #1129 N J ?Maener, #1130 John W Terry. An Emma Pyatt had married in 1858 James Monroe Walker. I assume this is Emma Pyatt born c1838. Where were James and Emma on the 1860 census?

It appears that while the family lived in Fayette County, there were records in Montgomery County which may relate to this family. Were they geographically closer to the county seat for Montgomery County and utilized the courthouse there more than the Fayette County courthouse?

I wonder if any of these marriages could be for Ebenezer's daughter, Rachel:
Rachel C Pyatt and Robert H Sherrod 07/22/1871 vol 6 pg 108 license #4405 Montgomery Co, IL
Rachel E Pyatt and Benjamin Sellers 05/05/1883 vol 1 pg 101 license #7260 Montgomery Co, IL
Rachel Caroline Pyatt and David W Hinton 03/18/1880 vol A pg 49 Fayette Co, IL

I had no luck in finding Elizabeth Pyatt and family on the 1870 census. Had she died or remarried? Why couldn't I locate the boys Albert and Jacob - assuming that the daughters might have married. My search was countrywide for the boys.
