George W and Sarah Mira Pyatt Ferguson

Sarah Mira Pyatt was born c1826 in Burke County, North Carolina, to William and Cynthia Fox Pyatt. She married (probably in Cherokee County, North Carolina) George W Ferguson who was born c1825 in Haywood County, North Carolina, to ? and Rhoda Ferguson.

George and Sarah had the following known children:

The newlywed couple appeared on the 1850 census in Cherokee County, North Carolina, as follows:

This family was enumerated #144/144 (Ancestry.com image 19/151). Their neighbors included Sarah's parents at #142, #143 Rhody Ferguson, #145 James & Susanna Hagan; #146 Jonah & Lidia McGuire; #147 John & Caroline McRany; and #148 Mary Fisher. I believe the Rhody Ferguson at #143 is George's mother age 41 born NC. Children in her household included: William R b: c1828, Samuel H b: c1830, John A b: c1833, James N b: c1835, Thomas M b: c1839, Doctor B F b: c1842, Narcissa b: c1844, and Robert L b: c1848 (all in North Carolina). On the same page, the William Puett family had a child with the same unusual name - 'Doctor'.

The family appeared as follows on the 1860 census of Cherokee County, North Carolina (Murphy Twp):

This family was enumerated #136/136 pg 352B (Ancestry.com image 21/51). A few houses previous (#130/130) were Sarah's parents. Her sister, Hazy Matilda Pyatt McGuire, was in Fort Humbree Township and brothers, John S Pyatt, Joseph Alfred Pyatt, and William Calton Pyatt had all moved to Wright County, Missouri. If Sarah's sisters, Nancy and Eliza, are still living - I did not locate them.

By the 1870 census of Murphy, Cherokee County, North Carolina, the family appeared as follows:

This family was enumerated #17/17 pg 296A; (Ancestry.com image 19/39) sometimes indexed as 'Payatt' for Cynthia due to a swirl at the start of the y that is taken for an 'a'. So far, it appears that George and Sarah have not lost any of their known children and the spacing of them is such that it appears to be a complete list of their children. They might have had other children after this enumeration, however.

I could not find George and Sarah or any of their children on the 1880 census. By this time, Sarah's mother had moved to Wright County, Missouri, and appeared with Sarah's brother, John S Pyatt. Her other brothers were still in Wright County, Missouri, and her sister, Hazy, was still in Cherokee County, North Carolina.
