Solomon and Elizabeth Matilda Pyatt Garrison

Elizabeth Matilda Pyatt was born November 4, 1823, in Burke County, North Carolina, to Benjamin and Mary Mira "Polly" Fox Pyatt. Matilda married on February 20, 1845, in Knox County, Tennessee, Solomon Garrison who was born August 21 (or February), 1817, in Burke County, North Carolina. Solomon died in Knox County, Tennessee, on November 3, 1905, and Matilda died there on January 3, 1907.

The information on Nino Garrison must have come from family lore or a cemetery inscription as this child never appeared with the family.

Benjamin and Polly Pyatt had moved to Knox County, Tennessee, in 1829 and bought 150 acres of land in 1831. Thelma Garrison Dickey (their granddaughter) has the original deed and lives on his old homeplace. While Matilda was born in Burke County, North Carolina, she spent the balance of her life 1829-1907 in Knox County, Tennessee. Did Solomon's family come at the same time? He also lists his place of birth and that of his parents as North Carolina. He was born in Burke County, North Carolina, per the 1850 census.

I find Solomon and family on the 1850 census in the 15th Subdivision of Knox County, Tennessee, as follows:

This family was enumerated #1101/1110 pg 172A image 251 of 398. Living nearby were Matilda's parents; her brother, Joseph Pyatt; and, her former sister-in-law, Louisa Pyatt. Other neighbors were ? Brown, Robert McBatte, William D May, Joseph Cox, Newsberry Duncan, James Cox, and William S Callaway.

Solomon and Matilda appeared on the 1860 census in Beaver Ridge P O, District 19, Knox County, Tennessee, as follows:

This family was enumerated #81/79 pg 328 (Ancestry.com 12/19). Living next door were Matilda's parents aged 73 and 63. Also still living close by was Matilda's brother, Joseph Pyatt. Her former sister-in-law and nephew, Joseph Pyatt, had moved to Anderson County, Tennessee.

They appeared on the 1870 census of District 19, Knox County, Tennessee, as follows:

This family was enumerated #57/58 pg 338B (ancestry.com image 8/24). Next door was Matilda's widowed 75-year-old mother.
