Henry C and Eliza Inks Pyeatt

Henry Clay Pyeatte was born in November 1841 to John R and Elizabeth Buchanan Pyeatt and died in 1932. Both events probably occurred in Washington County, Arkansas. He married first on January 18, 1866 in Washington County, Arkansas (book C pg 182) Sarah T (or J) Yates who was born c1843. I do not believe they had children together.

Henry served in the Confederate army during the Civil War. He was a corporal in Company B of the 34th Arkansas Infantry. Some records are spelled Pyeatte and some are Pyeatt.

Some of Henry's children spelled their name "Pyeatte" which can be seen on their cemetery markers. Therefore, I will use that spelling for them.

Henry and Sarah appeared on the 1870 census of Boonesboro, Washington County, Arkansas:

This family was enumerated #125/126 pg 90 Boonesboro. F Rutherford appears to be a relative as she is not a laborer. Was she related to Sarah? Henry's father and unmarried sister, Mary Pyeatt lived at #123/124 and his sister, Katherine Jane Pyeatt Moore, lived at #124/125 with her husband, William S Moore and children. Neighbors were Caney Flour, John Lackey, Ellis Bolen, Wm Fane, and R B Prather.

Henry was married in 1874 to Eliza Inks who was born in December 1852 and died in 1911. Both Henry and Eliza are buried in the Cane Hill cemetery in Washington County, Arkansas, where their headstones read:
Henry Clay Pyeatt 1841-1932 and Eliza Inks Pyeatt 1852-1911

Henry and Eliza had the following children:

On the 1880 census of Cane Hill, Washington County, Arkansas, the family of Henry Clay Pyeatt appeared as follows:

This family enumerated #19/#19 on page 615a ED #211 Boonsboro?. Other families nearby were the George F and Lorena Pyeatt family; Addie Pyeatt; C F Pyeatt; and Martha J Pyeatt.

By the 1900 census of Cane Hill, Washington County, Arkansas, they appeared as follows:

This family was enumerated #331 pg 42A image 37/44.

This family enumerated #157 pg 35A image 15/24; neighbors were Lynn Crawford, Charles King, Frank Little, Wesley Kidd, John Brewster, and William Moore. Note that Henry's marriage is his second. Eliza claims that 11 of her 12 children are still living. I am amazed at the number of children at an advanced age that are still unmarried - maybe she was a really good cook!

Henry appeared as follows on the 1911 Confederate Veteran's census:

  • Pyeatt, Henry C 3:78

These entries were found in the California Death Index 1940-1997:

I am interpreting the 'Tuks' on John Clay Pyeatte to be a misinterpretation of an 'I' and an 'n' as a 'T' and a 'u'. I have never heard of a Tuks surname and all other information fits this individual.
