John C and Julia West Pyeatt

John Cunningham Pyeatt was born on September 8, 1837, to Finis Ewing and Elizabeth Maxwell Pyeatt. John died July 16, 1888. He married October 24, 1867, in Washington County, Arkansas (book C pg 308) Julia A West who was born March 9, 1848, and died October 11, 1933. John fought in the Civil War in Gordon's Regiment 1st Arkansas Cavalry. He is buried in the Prairie Grove Cemetery, Washington County, Arkansas.

The synopsis of John's service in the Civil War is as follows:
PYEATT, JNO. C. 1Sgt - Captured 3 Nov 1863 in Washington Co, AR and sent to MP at Alton, IL 15 Aug 1864 then to Point Lookout, MD for exchange 17 Feb 1865 (from http://www.couchgenweb.com/civilwar/4thcof.html).

The known children of John and Julia:

The 1870 census of Ray's Mill P O, Marrs Hill Township, Washington County, Arkansas, shows:

This family was enumerated #14/14 (F E Pyatt) and 14/15 (J C Pyatt) pg 153B Ray's Mill. Other neighbors were Josiah Roberts, Thos Gibson, James Burton, G W Ashley, Jack Daily, Preston Johnson, James Marrs, D C Thurman, Bolin Smith, S V Marrs, C McChristian, C B Pittigrew, J T Cabe, Robt Gibson, George Gibson, Jonas Burkett. The 'F E' is a female and the right age to be John's mother, Elizabeth Pyeatt. Living next door to this family was Thomas Jefferson 'Jeff' Cabe with his wife, Margaret Pyeatt Pierce Cabe, and their daughter Elizabeth. Jeff had been married to Martha Carnahan Pyeatt Pyeatt Cabe before her death and so was at one time the step-father of John's Dad. Living not too far away at #66 was William M Pyatt.

John and family (and his mother) appeared as follows on the 1880 census of Marrs Hill, Washington County, Arkansas:

The family was enumerated #95/95 Marrs Hill pg 501 7th June 1880. Their near neighbors were Barney ?Newberry and Ethan Cantrell. Living at #176 was his brother, Jacob Preston Pyeatte, and at #178 his brother, William H Pyeatte.

I do not have many of the abstracts from 1900 census. Julia and son appeared on the 1910 census of Prairie Grove, Washington County, Arkansas, as follows:

This family was enumerated #133/138 pg 100A ED 144 image 11/33; neighbors were William Mack, Wallen Dawn, Robert Simpson, and Frederick Lark. I'm concerned that Julia claimed to have 6 children and 6 living because I have her listed with seven children. Did she forget to count the one who died as an infant? Did Wallace answer these questions and forget about the baby?

Julia's widows application for Civil War pension is summarized as follows:
Pyeatt, Jno C / widow: Julia A Pyeatt / widow's appl #: 29252 / widow's dob: 03/09/1848 / veteran's unit: Capt Reefs Col Gordon's Rgt Arkansas Cavalry / veteran's date of service: 1862-1865 / widow's appl date: 07/15/1927 / county: Washington / veteran's dod: 07/16/18?? / widow's dod: 10/11/1933
