Allen, Maria L age 12 born MO / female / att school
This family enumerated 21st Sep 1850 #1546/1576 (pg 22/36 ancestry). Thier neighbors were #1542 William and Ellen Harris, #1543 Andrew McLure, #1544 Erin and Penelope Francis, #1545 Benjamin G and Jane (b: c1803 KY) Brown, #1547 Henry Keeton, #1548 Lardge and Emilie Ink, #1549 Wm C and Anna E Ink, #1550 John and Julia Piet.
This Sarah Sledd is a daughter of Jacob and Olivia ?Inks Pyeatt. Living next door to the Sledds in 1850 was her brother, John Pyatt and his wife Julia ?Inks. On the 1900 census, Julia is living with Maria L Kerr and family and is listed as James' mother-in-law. I think that the fact that Maria was married as 'Pierett' indicates that she was adopted some time after the 1850 census - probably by the John Pyeatt family. However, I do not find a 'matching' Maria L on the 1860 census. I do find John and family on the 1860 census in Boles Township, Franklin County, Missouri as follows:
- Piat, John age 44 born MO / male / farmer
- Piat, Julia age 46 born MO / female
- Piat, Elisha age 20 born MO / male
- Piat, Olive age 18 born MO / female
- Piat, Sarah age 16 born MO / female
- Piat, Jacob age 15 born MO / male
- Piat, William age 12 born MO / male
- Piat, Fredric age 10 born MO / male
- Piat, Missouri age 6 born MO / female
- Piat, Catherine age 4 born MO / female
I did find the family of Maria L Kerr in Dry Branch, Franklin County, Missouri on the 1880 census in hopes that Julia was living with that family. She wasn't with them, but, they appeared as follows:
- Kerr, Frank age 48 born MO / wm / Married / Dry Goods Merchant / father/mother born TN
- Kerr, Maria L (wife) age 34 born MO / wf / Married / keeping house / father/mother born MO
- Kerr, Fanny (daughter) age 16 born MO / wf / single / at home / father born TN/mother born MO / attended school
- Kerr, William (son) age 13 born MO / wm / single / works on farm / father born TN/mother born MO / attended school
- Kerr, Leona (daughter) age 8 born MO / wf / father born TN/mother born MO / attended school
- Kerr, Frank (son) age 6 born MO / wm / father born TN/mother born MO / attended school
This family was enumerated #81/81 (Ancestry.com image 16/45).
Julia (or someone of the same name and approximate age) was living with her son-in-law, James F Kerr, and family on the 1900 census of Franklin County (Central Township) as follows:
- Kerr, James F age 68 born Jul 1831 TN / married 36 years / father born TN/mother born GA
- Kerr, Maria L (wife) age 56 born Feb 1844 MO / married 36 years / father/mother born MO / 4 children/4 living
- Kerr, Missouri L (daughter) age 25 born Apr 1875 / single / father born TN/mother born MO
- Pyeatt, Julia (m-i-l) age 82 born May 1818 / Widowed / father/mother born MO / 12 children/6 living (this family enumerated #31/31/16/93 household #318 pg 32 of 35)
How is this Maria L Kerr the daughter of Julia? She did not appear with the family on the 1850 or 1860 census. Is she the Maria L Allen from the 1850 Meramac Twp, St Louis Co, MO, census with Wilson and Sarah Pyeatt Sled? That Maria was 12 years old (born c1838). This Maria L is not exactly the right age and would be a niece to Julia instead of a daughter. The other option is that this is John and Julia's daughter, 'Sarah', who was born c1844 (same year as this Maria L). Perhaps the 'L' is an 'S'? Or, this could be an adopted daughter and might explain why Julia gave her number of children as 12 on one census year and 11 on another.
Also, I find a family that might 'belong' to James F Kerr from the 1850 census of Franklin County, Missouri, as follows:
- Kerr, William age 48 born TN / farmer / $2800
- Kerr, Martha age 48 born TN
- Kerr, Hester age 22 born TN
- Kerr, David age 21 born TN
- Kerr, James age 19 born TN
- Kerr, William age 17 born TN
- Kerr, ?Kanson P age 15 born TN
- Kerr, Mary J age 13 born TN (this family enumerated 17th Oct 1850 #1076/1076)
On the 1910 census of Pacific City, Boles Township, Franklin County, Missouri, Julia was living with her son, Elisha as follows:
- Pyeatt, Elisha age 69 born MO / wm / married 2, 29 years / laborer - odd jobs / father/mother born MO
- Pyeatt, Mary (wife) age 49 born IL / wf / married 1, 29 years / 3 children/3 living / father born Germany/mother born ?IL
- Pyeatt, Frederick (son) age 22 born MO / wm / single / laborer - odd jobs / father born MO/mother born IL
- Pyeatt, Julia (mother) age 96 born MO / wf / widowed / 11 children/4 living / father/mother born MO
This family was enumerated on #212 Fourth Street 22 Apr 1910. It appears that this Julia is the one who appeared with the Kerr family in 1900. There are a few discrepancies - her year of birth and the number of children born to her. Did Julia have 12 children or 11? Who answered that question for her on the census and would they know the correct answer? I have a list of 11 children known to me. Which two of her children had died between the 1900 census and the 1910 census? Did someone also give the wrong age for Julia on the 1900 census? Her age in 1910 agrees with her age on much earlier censuses.
