Jonathan and Dinah Piatt Martin
Dinah Pyatt was born February 03, 1702/03 in Piscataway, Middlesex, New Jersey, to Jacob and Mary Hull Piatt and died 1789 in Piscataway, Middlesex Co., New Jersey. She married Jonathan Martin in about 1722. He was the son of Benjamin Martin and Margaret Reynolds. Jonathan Martin had three wives and 15 known children. He married his first wife about the time the new church was formed (in Middlesex Co NJ) and it was recorded as 1706. That wife was Elizabeth Dunham, d/o the new pastor, Rev. Edmund Dunham and his wife Mary Bonham Dunham. Elizabeth died four years later at the age of 21. In 1713 Jonathan married Martha Runyon, d/o John & Ann Elizabeth Dunn Runyon. She died 7 years later at age 27. Both tombstones for Dinah and Jonathan were unearthed in 1971-72 winter when digging up an old Nike missile at the old Hadley Airport. This airport is rather famous since that is where the American Air-Mail system had its beginning. The tombstones were eventually taken to the Metlar House, 1281 River Rd., Piscataway. Mrs. Cora Lee Romano was kind enough to make me [Caral Mechling] a beautiful rubbing of Jonathan's stone. It was her husband who rescued the stones on that winter day. It reads, 'In Memory of Jonathan Martin - Father of Jacob Martin Esq - who deceased July -- 1768 in the 82d year of his age.'
Evidently, Jacob was the one who purchased the stone. It is a little
amusing that as the father of 15 children, his son Jacob had his name on the monument. The stone for Dinah was the same design. A third stone for a young daughter was also uncovered: Dinah died at age 18 in 1794, d/o of
Jacob."

Possibly one of these Martin-Mundy marriages produced the Pyatt Mundy found in tax records of Middlesex County 1810-1819.
Pyatt Martin was the son of Jacob Martin and Elizabeth Dunham (above) and was the 4th great grandfather of Caral Mechling.
He was born (probably) 8 Oct, near Piscataway, Middlesex Co, NJ,
and died July 22, 1828, in Marion County, OH. He is buried in the Pleasant-Liberty Cemetery and his age on the headstone reads 'age 53'. Pyatt was
married c1798/1800 (probably in OH or NJ) to Anna Hoagland (Hoag?), said to be the daughter of James & Martha Hooey. She was born c 1775-1780 (probably in NJ) and died c1843 (probably in Pleasant Twp, Marion Co, OH.
Pyatt moved from NJ to Warren Twp, Jefferson Co, OH, with his parents,
Jacob & Elizabeth Martin, probably during the early 1790s. No known military service.
Martin appears on the 1806 Jefferson Co, Ohio, tax list on page 14 (no township is listed). In Warren Township, Jefferson Co, OH, on the 1807 tax list on page 11; 1809 tax list on page 9; and on the 1810 tax list on page 14.
A family story says that after Pyatt's death, his wife Anna and another
woman, both with a child on their laps, traveled by horseback to NJ to settle up some of Pyatt's affairs there. I'm curious as to what "affairs" might have remained in NJ. Primary proof seems difficult to find, with the exception of a few Census schedules, and Pyatt's tombstone. Will be especially interested in sources of any data found.
See the Researcher Family Lines page for Caral's other Pyatt ancestors.
