In Jefferson County, Missouri, there were no Pruett will records; probate records include Finas Pruitt case #5736, Henry Pruitt case #408, and Laborn Pruitt/Prewitt case #815. Marriages were as follows:

I find no other record of the Pruitts in St Louis or Jefferson Counties. It appears that they moved to Scotland County, Missouri.

The census entry for the 1850 census of Scotland Co, MO, Mt. Pleasant Twp:

Also at dwelling #577-577 next door: Nearby at dwelling #550-550: One child living with the family in 1850 is 2 year old John Martin Pruitt. I would guess that he's their grandson by way of a widowed son, or, a nephew being raised by them. Several of these names are Pyeatt family names and the ages of Catherine and John and their first two children correspond to their entry from the 1830 census entry.

On the 1860 census of Scotland Co, MO, they appear as follows:

Notice the discrepancies in the ages of John and Catharine from the 1850 census entry. It would appear that one or the other is in error. Catharine is still 2 years older than John. But, his calculated year of birth from the 1850 census is 1809 and from the 1860 is 1804. Catharine's is calculated at 1807 for 1850 census and 1802 from the 1860. How did they both gain 15 years between census entries? We know they are the same couple as two of the children match exactly to the 1850 census entry.

Also, I found headstone inscriptions in the Bible Grove Cemetery in Scotland County, Missouri, which seem to be for this John and Catharine which read as follows:

Note that John's information from his headstone agrees with the age of the John Prewitt who was in St. Louis Co, Missouri, in 1840 and who married Catharine Pyeatt (b: c1806). Catharine's age of 61 years agrees with no other dates to be found in census records (b: c1807, c1802). Can anyone shed light on this?

I performed several searches of the 1880 federal census at familysearch.org. I searched for a John Pruitt (any spelling) born in Missouri in 1805 (+-5 years) in all of the US - no mathces. I searched the US for Catharine Pruitt (all spellings) born in Missouri 1805 (+-5 years) - no matches. There were 19 'Catharines' in Missouri in 1880 who were born in this time range - I did not study them further. I searched the US for Samuel Pruitt (all spelling) born in Missouri 1826 (+-2 years) - there was one in Washington, Pettis, Missouri with no parent's place of birth listed. I searched the US for William Pruitt (all spellings) born in Missouri in 1829 (+-2 years) - no matches. I searched the US for John Pruitt (all spellings) born in Missouri in 1831 (+-2 years) - no matches. I searched the US for Labourne Pruitt (all spelling) born in Missouri in 1838 (+-5 years)- no matches.
