Samuel had moved to Sullivan County, Missouri with his family before 1857. They were in Illinois just previous to that when Samuel's sister, Mary, was born in 1846 and where the family was enumerated in 1850 in Island Grove Precinct, Sainte Marie Township, Jasper County, Illinois. David appeared as an 18-year-old with his family in Milan P O, Sullivan County, Missouri on the 1860 census before his marriage.

On December 10, 1882 an Annie Pyatt and Marion Johnson were married in Sullivan County. I have yet to determine who that marriage is for. None of the Pyatt's of Sullivan County had an 'Annie' on the 1880 census. However, there are others going by nicknames, such as 'Lizzie' who might actually be Annie.
