Thomas and Catherine Bell Pyeatt

Thomas Pyeatt was born c1774 in Path Valley, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, to Jacob and Elizabeth ?Dunham Pyeatt and died in 1850 in Richland County, Ohio (or Grant County, Indiana). He married c1793 ?Washington County, Pennsylvania, Catherine Bell who was the daughter of Robert Bell and the sister of Elizabeth Bell who married George Yearian who was from Richland County, Ohio and later, Perry County, Illinois. These names will all figure prominantly in the story of Thomas Pyeatt and that of his children.

Their children were as follows:

Thomas Pyeatt and brother-in-law, George Yearian, served in the War of 1812 together. George received bounty land in Illinois for his service, and that is how he came to be there, even though he didn't go until around 1838. Belmont County, Ohio, must be where the three families (counting the Bells) met. George was born in 1785 in Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, PA, and came with his father into Belmont County in the early 1800's. About 1811 he married Robert Bell's daughter, Elizabeth. Robert Bell purchased land in Richland County where he founded the town of Bellville. Apparently the Pyeatts made the same move into Richland County, the same into Perry County, Illinois, and the same into the Lemhi Valley of Idaho as the Yearians did. George Yerian, 1733-1804, moved to Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland Co, PA; Frederick Yerian, 1762-1840, moved into Belmont Co, Ohio. Later to Muskingham and Morgan Counties. George Yearian, 1785-1867, married 1st Elizabeth Bell. They both died in Illinois.

Thomas and family were enumerated in Perry Township, Richland County, Ohio on the 1820 census as follows:

By the 1830 census they appeared as follows in Madison Township, Richland County, Ohio: Living nearby was his son's family as follows: Sources:
