"Links of a Chain"
If the links in a chain represent periods of time
and they formed a larger circle by the years of our life
How many would we carry linked open and wide
To remember the joy of happiness or the burden of strife
The first link is of birth so wondrous and pure
Our mold takes shape with our first gasp of air
Then the chain begins, safe secure and sacred in the fold
Into the love that surrounds us and none can compare
Another link sees us standing on our own, eyes scheming in mischief
As exploration takes on a pattern, we have conquered our first fight
Then drift we may over barriers, some easy to hurdle in style
Others we challenge there format exerting our might
Then glorious bonds cling to our links, a smaller circle each makes
And new visions of dreams clank open as the chain grows in length
Expanding disbelief at the power we gather from another
Yet amazed from emotions we share and the strength
Some links are thin from weakness we carry
Some thick, the weight makes it heavy to bend
But our journey grows wider and the circle expands
As we hoist our anchor in the form of a dear friend
My links have stretched, some thin, some bold
But the welds are strong through memories l shared
My life's chain has gathered no permanent rust
These links have been pampered and properly prepared
May our chains be linked always from love and grace
To all friends of my heart, you each have a place.
To share in true glory when time takes it's toll
On a simple circle of chain, linked back to the fold
