Well it has take me a while to finish the Test on The Alice Pack and The Cfp-90
pack due to an Auto accident that totaled out my Jeep Cherokee and banged up my
knee.
CFP-90
The Cfp-90 Back Pack is made by Lowe for the US Military. It Features an interal
frame , a large badded wait belt, zippered sleeping bag access on the bottom of the pack,
padded Lumbar support, Removable Combat Patrol pack, three large outside pockes, radio
antenna access ports on the top of the pack, storm seal drawstring collar , woodland
cammo pattern, webbing for attaching alice gear, and has a copacity 6590 cubic inches and weigs 8 pound 8 ounces empty
and a cost of $150-$300 us dollars new.
Medium Alice Pack
The Alice pack has been the standard issue of the US Military since the early
1960's. I Measures 19 inches x 20 inches x 11 inches,it features 3 external pockes,
webbing for ataching alice gear, several lashing points for ataching gear, an external frame,
it also can be used with out a frame, Is rated to hold 50 pounds and comes in OD green, Woodland cammo
and Black.
The Test
I filled both pack to their capicty,the CFP-90 seemed like a bottom less pit.
It held a whopping 80 pounds. The Alice pack held 46 pounds. On seperate days I took
3&1/2 mile marches in the woods. I walked up hills down paths on gravel roads.
The CFP-90 did not leave me fatiged. It had a tendance to get hung on trees early on
the walk because I was not use to walking with such a large pack. Once I got use to
the size of the pack I did not have any problems geting around. The sleeping bag compartment
was large enough to hold my itermediate sleeping bag with plenty of room left over.
I only put 2 ponchos in the Day pack as any thing else seem to thow of the balance of the pack.
Over all the pack pereformed excently. If you can handel a large pack I recomend
the CFP-90. I bought the Alice pack, with a frame, I used back in 1984 it has out lasted several
civillan packs i've owned. I added a woodland pattern pack cover. It never got snagged on brush
like the CFP-90. I Put my German sniper bag on top it kinda made the pack top
heavy. It still leaves me fatigued like it always has. It carries basicly the same gear as the CFP-90
pack i just can't carry as much food with Alice. If your are on an buget and cant carry a large
pack I recomend the Medium Alice its very durable I have had mine 14 years.If you have any question E-mail with them.
