Believing her father killed by Comanches, Courtney Harte is surprised to find a picture of him in a Texas newspaper. Her only thought is to find him but she can't go alone, she needs a guide and protector to get her through Indian Territory. The only man who fits that description is a gunfighter staying at her stepmother's hotel. But Chandos has his own mission and doesn't need a young, Eastern woman tagging along with him. He is seeking revenge for the deaths of his mother and sister, murdered by white settlers who invaded his peaceful Indian village. Finally he caves in after her threats to find some other man to take her, and they set off. On the trip west, Courtney discovers a growing attraction to her rough guide and he is drawn to her cateyes, but fights to keep the relationship strictly business. Finding her father again in Texas, Courtney doesn't want to loose Chandos but he has things to settle in his own life before they can be together. Finding he needs more in his life than vengeance, he returns to Courtney and a life of love.
