This headstone inscription is the only information that I have to date on Allen Hughes. I will be doing some looking at the 1910 and 1920 census records, etc. to see if I can locate a family by this name in Baxter or Fulton County, Arkansas.
Katheryn Brown Hughes Whitaker Headstone
The full inscription reads:
This new (2001) handmade concrete marker measures "H x "W x "D.
It is located in a central section (probably closer to the back side) of the cemetery near Cotter and Shrable markers. Katheryn was married first to a Hughes and had two children, Charley, who moved to Oklahoma and Fredericka 'Aunt Fred', who moved to California. When ? Hughes died, Katheryn then married Theodore Whitaker and had one daughter, Myrtle who married Holstine. When Hazel died, her son, Joe Kenneth Holstine was raised by Charley's daughter, Hazel, who was married to Cleve Holstine (Hazel and Cleve are also buried in Fluty Cemetery). According to Joe, Hazel identified the fieldstone markers of Katheryn Whitaker and husband Theodore which we will be marking when all details are known.

This old sandstone marker measures "H x "W x "D.
It is located in a central section of the cemetery near the biggest walnut tree. Graves nearby include:
I find Allen Hughes age 7 on the 1900 census of Bayou Township, Baxter Co, AR, with his parents, Charles and Minnie Hughes (who had been married for 10 years) and siblings Velda H age 9, Gran? (a sister) age 5, Esteal? (a sister) age 1. Allen was born in Arkansas, his father was a native of Ohio and his mother's family was from Arkansas. Neighbors listed on each side were the Albert Vincent family and the Samuel Mabery family.
Is this Charles Hughes the same as Charley Hughes son of Kathryn Brown and her first husband? The 'Ohio' seems to be a definate connection.
