The main character is Cloud Strife, a Former member of SOLDIER. But he has quit SOLDIER and joined a new force against Shrina Inc. AVALANCHE is trying to stop Shrina Inc. from sucking and consuming all the Mako energy from the Earth, by destroying reactors within the Slums of Midgar. The leader of this new force is Barret Wallace, a high tempered man. Tifa Lockheart is also affiliated with this group, Cloud's childhood friend. As Cloud, along with Tifa and Barret, make their way through the slums, they meet along with other people, such as Aeris and RedXIII. They also find and discover about Sephiroth, the highest man in SOLDIER. A mysterious and feared person, everyone expected Sephiroth to be dead, until he kills President Shrina. As Cloud and the others move out of Midgar, and into the world, they meet up with new people along the way. They also uncover some of Sephiroth's history and their's as well. They learn about the Ancients, and Sephiroth's real objective.
