Perfect Dark, like I've said, has been waited on for a long time. It looks a lot like GoldenEye007 so far, but whats different about it? Perfect Dark is set in the year 2023. You are Joanna Dark - code-named Perfect Dark - a female secret operative who works for the Carrington Institute. As Joanna looks deeper and deeper into the DataDyne corporation, she discovers that the company is hiding extraterrestrial being of both good and bad stature. So your objective is to save the good extraterrstrails basically.
Now how about the graphics and sound? Thats another big important factor to the game. Well, the from the screen shots I've seen, the graphics look great, very similar to GoldenEye007 once again(Thats Rare for ya). But they have improved the special effects quite a bit. Perfect Dark is a brilliant-looking game that uses specular highlighting, amazing water and floor reflections, and other lighting effects that are not seen in GoldenEye. In one of the unfinished levels, a giant hall with windows is completely reflected in the polished floor. The sense of style and atmosphere is amazing. Dead alien bodies litter the floor of the organic-looking base and you will be amazed at the detail in a half-sunken, ancient temple in the desert with stone walls endowed with runes and inscriptions. Lights will have glares on them, flashes appear from certain guns when they fire, and even appear when the bullets hit the enemy.
Like most Rare games, they all have good and fun Multiplayer, such as GoldenEye 007, possibly the best multiplayer mode in a game ever. There is also DK64, and a lot of others. But in Perfect Dark, they have said they have beaten GoldenEye 007 in that area. It is particularly in multiplayer mode that Perfect Dark shines, and it shines bright. What Rare has done here, first of all, is add a whole new element to the game: Bots and "Simulants." If you're big on PC first-person shooters then you probably know what a bot is. For those of you who don't, bots are super-realistic computer-controlled players. Bots move and react smartly, fight strategically and, in some cases, are just as challenging as human opponents if not more so. Players can go against seven (Rare is aiming for 10) bots in four-player multiplayer mode. This means that, in theory, you and three friends could make up a team and fight against seven computer-controlled bots to the death. And if you've got no friends, you can go solo against a series of bots and the challenge will be huge.
Perfect Dark seems more than perfect, and when it comes out, I'm sure the sales will be over the roof. This game has been made to perfection and will be the best game for the N64 so far!
