Minutes of ABATE District 9 General Meeting
January, 2003
Roll call - 28 members
President Ricky Dennis called meeting to order at 7:10 pm.
Motion made, seconded, and carried, to accept the minutes as read
Treasurers report presented by Ken Pearson. MMS&C to accept treasurers report as read.
Before discussing district business, several members presented updated information about Joe Bunners condition.
Old Business: Discussed events from the last month, including the El Dorado Toy Run, the Confederates M/C Toy Run, and the Toy Runs/Auctions in Texarkana & New Boston.
New Business:Floor was declared open for nominations for District 9 Officers and State Board Reps for 03. Motion was made and approved to split the "Secretary/NL Editor" position into 2 positions. Names were placed into nomination for all positions. E-mails will be sent out to all D9 members making them aware of the cutoff date for submitting names of any additional nominees for office.
It was decided that, in the future, D9 events would be headed up by specific Event Committee Heads and Members in charge of those particular events.
Teresa England suggested that we further explore the financial advantages of sponsorship. Keith DuPriest likewise suggested we look into possible sponsorship for the Bike Show and Rally, in addition to the Toy Run, which is our only sponsored event at this time.
Details were presented concerning our planned D9 Super Bowl Party set for January 26th.
Discussed upcoming events in February, to include: ABATE District 1 Swap Meet and Bike/Car Show, and the Easy Rider Bike Show in Memphis. It was also noted that the Louisiana State HOG Rally will be held the weekend of March 27th-30th, in Shreveport.
Dates were set for our D9 2003 events, with info being forwarded to CMA for their planning calendar.
Considerably time was spent concerning upcoming helmet law legislation.
Talked again about group ride to Myrtle Beach, S.C., Rally, May 8th - 16th. Anyone interested in going needs to get in touch with Rick Dennis ASAP so he can call in block room reservations.
