Minutes of ABATE District 9 General Meeting

March, 2000

  • Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm

Minutes read by Keith DuPriest. Motion made, seconded, carried, to accept the minutes as read

Treasurer’s report read by Waylon Brown. Motion made, seconded, carried, to accept Treasurer’s report as read

Discussed ABATE District 9 patches. Order has been placed for 200 of these, with each being 12" wide and 9" tall.

Discussed our upcoming Poker Run/State Abate Board Meeting set for April, in Magnolia. Asked for volunteers to help man stations for PR and to help serve lunch at Board Meeting., etc

Discussed the much-appreciated agreement by District 14, Hot Springs (and Pres. Mike Bomer), to change the date of their early-season bike show so as not to conflict with ours, scheduled for May 20th. Since we are date-locked into the Magnolia Blossom Festival for our show, this was very important. Mike even went on to say that District 14 would use that date to schedule a group ride to Magnolia, for our Bike Show, which will also provide a big boost for us. This kind of cooperation between Districts is what is going to make being in ABATE so great. Our thanks again to Mike and District 14.

Discussed need to schedule some fund-raisers this year to bolster our treasury for upcoming events

Discussed Louisiana State HOG Rally (Shreveport), taking place March 24-26 in Shreveport. Also, talked about Republic of Texas Biker Rally (Austin) coming up in June.

Discussed, and signed interested members up for, the (purely optional) yearly newsletter package being made available to all members of D9. Package costs $15 per year, and includes: Full-year, "skeletal" Biking Calendar of Events;12 individual-month Biking Event calendars, mailed out each month; 4 complete membership roster updates, mailed out quarterly; 6-7 color "pic pages", sent out after our major events, and cover pages (typically every month, also) with any last-minute updates about any pressing news or information. These monthly calendar pages and "pic pages" can also be viewed at Brown’s Cycle Shop, or at the D9 clubhouse.

Discussed having 50/50 drawings at general meetings. Motion made, seconded, carried.

Discussed changing date of our July meeting, since it falls on the 4th. Motion made to move meeting date to Tuesday, July 11th. Motion made, seconded, carried.

Discussed Bike Show T-shirt design, etc. It was recommended we go with dark gray on the t’s, and include breast pocket. Russell and Dale will commence working on graphic design. Motion made, seconded, carried.

Jay Brown mentioned that, unless there are more sign-ups later in the week for this weekends MSF course offering, this weekend’s class may be canceled. All those interested in taking the course need to contact Jay.

Discussed the possibility of having additional assistant Road Captains, and need for maps for all group rides.

Bill Norris brought a laptop computer, and showed everyone the new ABATE District 9 website, which Bill has been working on for the last couple of weeks.

Received applications from new members Jim & Zenita Barner (Camden), and Paul Franklin (Waldo). Wayne Rayford was also a guest at the meeting.

Discussed possibility of having one monthly meeting per quarter in town other than Magnolia, and where other D9 members reside. This would allow members from out of town to not have to ride so far every month for meetings. Will develop this more as more members join up.

    Meeting adjourned at 9:15pm
