"Bless The Children And The Beasts"
by the CARPENTERS

The confusion was apparent in her eyes,

As her mother and father shouted in anger.

Loving them both, it hurt seeing them fight,

Even more for she feared because of her.

The say they no longer loved,

Divorce was what they spoke of.

Who got what, who would leave,

Both wanting her with them.

The tug of war pulled her apart,

The demand for her to choose,

While seeing the other occasionally,

When what she wants is them both.

A choice unwilling to make,

She runs from those she loves,

Distancing herself from unhappiness,

So neither could hurt her more.

A child frightened, alone on the streets,

Searching for love from whoever gave.

Found in the arms of a man,

Using her to please himself.

Little girl lost because of anger,

The selfishness of those she loves.

Lost innocence never to have again,

The child matured by hate.
