Despair

Sad eyes peering from the dark

Hiding from the reality of life.

Seeking sanctuary from pain

Despair replaces hopes and dreams.

Vermin infested hovel

A place of safety.

Unfit for human habitation

The most attractive feature.

Unwanted, unloved, cast aside.

One of societies lost.

Each day as those before,

Draining the will to survive.

Ambition buried in hopelessness

Countless nights of prayers unanswered.

With no spark or glimmer left,

The flame of life flickers out.
