Welcome to my hunting and fishing webpage. If you’re a hunting or fishing enthusiast, I hope you’ll find my wepage informative, and perhaps entertaining. If hunting or fishing doesn’t appeal to you, perhaps you should click the page off now, so as not be disturbed by the content.
About me: I am 49 years old, was born and raised in Arkansas, and have hunted since I was about 12 years of age. I've fished for as long as I can remember. While hunting and fishing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, I get a great deal of satisfaction from it. I won’t go into all the details explaining why I choose to hunt, and my justifications for it, but I will say it is fun, challenging, entertaining, and a peaceful way to spend quality time doing something I cherish. Many of my fondest memories involve hunting and fishing.
I have three sons that have all taken an interest in pursuing wild game just as I do. We primarily hunt for deer and ducks, and flyfish for trout, but also pursue geese, turkey, pheasant and hogs. We have a small elk herd in Arkansas, and we apply for one of the twenty permits that become available each season. So far we've not had luck on our side, but remain hopeful. We also enjoy fishing for largemouth and smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and even panfish. We hunt at every opportunity, and use archery tackle, muzzleloaders, and modern guns in our pursuit. Arkansas has a good deer population and produces a few impressive trophies each year. In November of 1985, I killed my best deer to date in Pulaski County, an 8 point that scored 130 points (picture below). Not quite a Boone and Crockett record book deer, but a nice “typical” deer with good symmetry.
We hunt various areas around the state, but focus primarily on an area in Cleburne County. We have a small family oriented hunting club named the Cotillion Hunting Club, and enjoy the camaraderie of friends and family each year. Our club consists of four adults and four sons. During hunting season we have a great time hunting, but enjoy our annual chili cookoff and enjoy re-hashing previous hunts.

My favorite game to hunt is ducks. Arkansas has traditionally been the Mallard Capitol of the World, but has been subjected to some difficult seasons the past few years. The weather along with other factors has caused the annual migration to not materialize as we had hoped. But, in spite of some lackluster seasons, we’ve managed to make the best of what was presented, and salvage some good waterfowl hunts. We’ve had our days where a limit came quick, and days where we went home empty handed. But no matter how many ducks we came home with, we always had a great hunt and a great time. Baxter, our black lab is one of the “boys” and also ready to go when we are.

When fishing, we mostly fish the Little Red River in North Central Arkansas. Rainbows, Browns, Cutthroat and some Lake Trout are stocked below the Greers Ferry Lake dam. The Little Red River is home to the world record Brown Trout, weighing in at 40 lbs, 4 oz. We've caught plenty of trophy sized fish, but nowhere close to 40 lbs....yet! We tie our own flies and mostly flyfish. But, we also enjoy enjoy using ultra light spinning rods too. Another favorite is fishing for smallmouth bass in any number of Ozark Mountain streams.
If you're looking for map information, try the following links: TerraServer or Topo Zone or Maptech or Map 24 USA. For good information concerning GPS try the following links: GPS Information or GPS Nuts. For an excellent source of gun information, try SST's Rifle Room. The site contains Ballistics, Muzzle Energy and Recoil Calculators among a wealth of other gun related information. Try the Okie Gunsmith's Shop for exploded views of most popular firearms. These views are very helpful with disassembly and assembly of firearms. This next link is a good example of a Hunter's Checklist. While everyone will have their own unique checklist, this one is a good example of where to start. If you need a good example of Hunting Camp Rules, this link is a good one. For bowhunters, the following link to Easton Archery will allow you to download a "shaft selection" program, plus lots more information.
I hope you enjoyed visiting my Hunting and Fishing Site. I also hope you'll come back often, since it is under construction. I plan to add more information and photographs as time permits. I also encourage you to visit The The Southern Outdoorsman discussion board. It is a great site with friendly and knowledgeable members. I go by the screename "Cache" and am a moderator on that board. Please stop by and say hello. If you have any questions or comments about this site, please e-mail me at the address shown below.
