Lady Cats Finish Summer At UCA El Dorado concluded its summer season by going 8-3 at the Sugar Bears Team Camp at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. The Lady Cats posted big wins, including one over Class AAAAA Cabot. The three losses came to Nashville, Greenbrier and Vilonia. "Probably the biggest thing I got out of that camp is they're learning themselves that they can be a good team before it's all said and done," said Coach Bobby Harris. "I'd always thought that." Harris said the losses to Greenbrier and Vilonia didn't bother him as much as the setback against Nashville. "I didn't like our intensity. That was the only bad game we had up there," he said. Several Lady Cats distinguished themselves, including seniors Ava Robinson, Nichole Aragon, Latasha Taylor and Cortney Reed. "Cortney Reed is the one that comes to mind real quick," said Harris. "She really stepped up. Another one I was real proud of was (sophomore) Chasity Henry in this camp. She played hard every game and played defense every game and defense is not her forte. It's not her strength and she really stepped up." During the summer, the Lady Cats went to four camps and competed in a night league at Mount St. Mary's. All total, they played 57 games and posted a 36-21 record. Harris' JV squad went 26-1 in the camps. Of the 21 losses, only three - Poyen, Greenland and Searcy - were by 10 or more points. "I was very pleased with the participation. We had 12 of the 16 there almost every time," said Harris, who said Robinson was the only Lady Cat to play in all 57 games this summer. |
