The Witch
She comes by night, in fearsome flight,
in garments black as pitch,
the queen of doom upon her broom,
the wild and wicked witch.
**
a cackling crone with brittle bones
and desiccated limbs,
two evil eyes with warts and sties
and bags about the rims,
**
a dangling nose, ten twisted toes
and folds of shriveled skin,
crackled and chipped and crackled lips
that frame a toothless grin.
**
She hurtles by, she sweeps in the sky
and hurls a piercing screech.
As she swoops past, a spell is cast
on all her curses reach.
**
Take care to hide
when the wild witch rides
to shriek her evil spell.
What she may do with a word or two
is much to grim to tell.

The Black Cat
I rapped heavily, with a cane
Upon that very portion of the brick-work,
But....
No sooner had the reverberation
of my blows sunk into silence
I was answered by a voice
from within the tomb,
By a cry,
At first muffled and broken,
like the sobbing of a child,
And then quickly swelling into one long,
loud, and continuous scream,
Utterly inhuman...
A howl...
A wailing shriek...
Half of horror and half of triumph
Such as might have arisen out of hell
From the throats of the damned in their agony
And the demons that exult in the damnation.

Halloween Superstitions
If a candle flame suddenly turns blue,
look out
a ghost is near at hand.
To prevent ghosts from coming into the house,
especially on Halloween Nite,
bury animal bones near the doorway,
or bury the image of an animal
in a sealed box or jar.
In the United States,
if an all-black cat crosses
your path, it's bad luck.
If an all-white cat crosses
your path, it's good luck.
In Great Britain and Ireland,
it's just the opposite.
If Halloween night occurs
on the night of a full moon
the spirit world is all the closer,
so intuition and divination
are stronger
(be extra careful).
Before sunset on Halloween Nite,
walk around your home
backwards three times,
counterclockwise,
to ward off evil of any sort
that night.
A child that has teeth
when it is born will grow up
to be a vampire.
A person who dies on Halloween
becomes the most active ghost
there can be,
forever travelling back and forth
between the real world
and the spirit world.
These are superstitions for your entertainment
to share with company,
friends and family
during Halloween nite.
