1881 Obituary in Prospect News, Doniphan, MO:"Feb 4, 1881 Another Pioneer gone. DIED-of old age at his residence on the south fork of Little Black at a quarter past 9 o'clock Saturday morning last, Samuel Jordan. Mr. Jordan was born June 13, 1793, in Cumberland Co. NJ, was just a little less than 88 years of age. His pension states that he was "drafted" at Port Elizabeth, Cumberland Co. NJ-Lacking from Jan 29th to June 13, of being 88 years old. He went into the war of 1812, and served (from Sept. 21, 1814 to Jan 4)till the peace of 1815, (as pvt in Samuel Peterson's Co. of Howell's Regt. of NJ Militia). In June 1815 he was married to Amey Crammer at Pt. Elizabeth, NJ, who still survives him and was 85 years 4 days old at the death of her husband but was almost helpless. 15 children were born to this happy couple, 13 of whom lived to be grown. but now there are only now 5 living, three of whom, George J. Jordan, Smith Jorden, and Mrs Jane Lassen are living in the neighborhood where their father died. Mr. Jordan left NJ in the spring of '57 when he moved to this county and settled on the farm where he lived until the time of his death. Mr. Jordan came to this county at an age when most men in these days are too old to labor much, but not so with him. Settling in the woods with but few neighbors near him, he went to work and cleared himself a farm, and continued to work on it until a year or two ago. Mr. Jordan was always highly esteemed by those with whom he was associated and the extraordinary large crowd that attended the funeral services last Sunday attested their esteem for the dead and sympathy for the aged widow, her children and relatives. Most of his relatives still live in the old neighborhood in NJ, nearly all of whom have attained a good old age, his father, Adam Jordan, having lived to be nearly 100 years old at his death Mr. Jordan passed off as quietly as one going into a sweet sleep, and in full possession of all of his faculties. He was conscious of his approaching dissolution, and told his friends about a week before that he had but a few days more to stay with them, Peace be to his ashes....Millville, NJ Republican please copy."

Notes from K. W. Varner, JR.:
Note that between living in NJ and MO the family lived in Indiana from mid 1840's to 1857. On 25 Oct 1850 he filed for divorce saying that he'd lived in Warrick Co. for over five years and charging Amy Cramer Jordan with leaving him and swearing she'd never live with him again. Specifically, he lived in Newburgh, Warrick IN on 24 Mar 1852 when he applied for a land warrant and still was there when he sold another one on 1 Jun 1857.

Sam was granted a pension (#13572 dtd 6 Mar 1872) in 1871 and Amey, a widow's pension (32612) in 1882 (either the divorce was never finalized, they got remarried or she just never mentioned it to the pension board.
