Sarah Frances BROOKS, third child and daughter of William Atherton and Jane VANCE BROOKS, was born 8 AUG 1861 in Ripley County, Missouri and died 11 AUG 1907 in Carter County, Missouri. She married Reverend Houston Harmon SMELSER 9 NOV 1882 in Ripley County, Missouri. Houston, son of Sanford Wayne and Nancy Jane DAVIS SMELSER, was born 3 NOV 1861 in Grandin, Carter County, Missouri and died 8 FEB 1936 in Ripley County, Missouri.

Houston and Sarah are buried in Brooks Cemetery, Pleasant Grove, Ripley County, Missouri.

Mother of Rev's Willie and Newton Smelser, both Baptist preachers. Funeral Mon 12 Aug at Brooks Cemetary with services by pastor of Missionary Baptist Church of Grandin. (Obituary written by Rev. E.
