hits Tino in the with the next pitch. He's
immediately thrown out of the game, but FIGHT.
Fight breaks out Lloyd is the first running
out, hits Benitez in the face then Darryl
pounds Benitez's left cheek. A few others get
thrown out, suspended, and fined. Next pitch
2-run homerun for Tim Raines.
9-5 Stanton-W , Charlton-L

Sunday, May 31 vs. Boston Red Sox
Pettitte vs. Pedro Martinez : Pitching duel...
Nope just the opposite. Pettitte was having an
awful inning in the 4th inning, defense was even
under par. He gave up 8 runs and Holmes gave
up 3. TERRIBLE...But the Yankees wouldn't give
up. The Yankees got to Martinez in the 6th when
Joe Girardi drilled a 3-run homerun the other
way!?! In the next inning it almost looked like
the Yankees would win the game. They already had
the bases loaded with no outs and scored four
runs but then Brosius struck out. One out for
Posada screaming line drive up the middle ready
for 1st&3rd and the winning run at the plate but
the acrobatic flying of Merloni caught the before
it hit the outfield, threw to second and then to
first for a rally ending double play. Erdos gives
up two more runs in the top of the ninth.
OH! MY GOD THEY LOST the game.

all right. In the 8th inning the Braves
brought in the Bullpen, Dave Martinez as
the Yankees were down 4 to 3, Knoblauch
walked after Jeter flied out O'Neill walked
and Tino popped up, Raines doubled driving
in Knoblauch and O'Neill. Posada walked
for Darryl and Raines went to third on a wild
pitch and Curtis drove him in with a single.
6-4 Nelson-W , Martinez-L , Rivera-S

Friday, June 27 at New York Mets
First game of the Subway Series and it
would be remembered. Battle of the best
ERA's in their respective league, Irabu
vs. Leiter. The Yankees were down by one
two outs into the 7th against Al Leiter
when Knoblauch walked then Jeter hit slow
roller just to the right of the pitchers
mound to far for the 1st basemen to take
himself so he throws to Leiter and Jeter
dives into the base betting it out and
the same time Leiter pulled a muscle in
the play and took himself out of the game.
Rojas came from the Bullpen to face O'Neill
who on the first pitch hit a shot over
the left center wall for a Yankee lead.
They would score two more runs that inning.
8-4 Mendoza-W , Leiter-L , Rivera-S

Thursday, July 2 vs. Philadelphia Phillies
Irabu and the Bullpen were having a bad day
giving up runs and homeruns. Early in the
game the Yankees had a 5-0 deficit. The
Yankees kept climbing a greased hill as the
Phillies scored some more and the Yankees hit
solo homeruns from Tino and Jeter. The were
down 7-2 in the 8th as Paul O'Neill hit a
two-run homerun and Posada had an rbi single.
The Phillies scored another in the top of the
9th. Looking quiet two outs into the bottom
of the ninth for the Yankees with no one on.
Jeter doubles and O'Neill walks against Mark
Leiter. Then he fell behind in the count
against Tino 2-1, came inside and hit a game
tying homerun into the upper deck of rightfield.
Extra inning. Buddie was pitching good.
The Yankees had the bases loaded in the 10th
but didn't score. In the 11th the Yankees won
after O'Neill single, Tino single, Darryl walked,
and then Ricky Ledee who had pitch-run for Raines
in the 10th singled to win.
9-8 in 11 Buddie-W , Spradlin-L

Sunday, July 5 vs. Baltimore Orioles
Last game of the first half, exactly.
If they would win they would be tied with
the 1903 Pirates and 1906 Cubs with the most
wins 81 games into the season. The Yankees
were batting against Erickson who they barely
score runs off of just like that day when
the Yankees won 1-0 by a bases loaded hit
bats men of Chad Curtis.
1-0 Cone-W , Erickson-L , Rivera-S

Thursday, July 30 at Anaheim Angels
A great match-up Pettitte vs. Finley
Neither had their best stuff but always
kept working out of trouble. Pettitte went
seven shutout innings and Finley went eight.
It was 0-0 in the top of the tenth when the
bases were walked full and Tino served up
a two-run single. Rivera finished them off.
3-0 in 10 Mendoza-W , Delucia-L , Rivera-S

Tuesday, August 4 at Oakland Athletics
Game 2
Pettitte was supposed to start against the
A's ace Rogers but he missed the start due
to muscular pain so Mike Buddie took his
place. The Yanks already won the first game
10-4. Buddie was pumped up as he gave up
five runs in the first inning but went five
more shutout two hit inning. The Yankees had
one in the inning by an rbi single from Derek
Jeter but they were robbed of another one as
Spiezio took a sure single and rbi from Bernie
in the inning to end it. Top of the 9th, Rogers
still pitching and leading 5-1, not a save
situation yet. First Tino singles and then Raines
singles on the first pitch, Taylor came on for
the save. Curtis was at the plate scolds a hot
shot to Blowers(3b) that was line drive parallel
to ground could have one out, a double play, or
even a triple play but it went through his legs.
Tying run would be at the plate in Joe Girardi
but Darryl was pitch hitting for him just missed
a double down the line for strike two but Darryl
didn't let it stop him from hitting a game tying
pitch-hit GrandSlam over the dead center field wall.
Posada came up next to pitch-hit for Sojo but
grounded out. Knoblauch singles and then Taylor
balks putting him at second. Jeter hit a hard ground
ball that Spiezio made another great play by
smothering it and throwing to Giambi for the out
but after touching the bag fell down and Jeter
accidentally kneed him in the head and Knoblauch
scored the go ahead run. Paul O'Neill then hit a
solo homerun, Tim Worrel came in to relieve Taylor,
Bernie singled, Tino hit a two-run homer to right
field, Raines singles, Spencer came in to run for
Raines, Curtis doubled, Spencer scored, Groom came
in to relieve Worrel, and finally struck out
Strawberry. In all nine hits and nine runs in the
top of the ninth for the Bronx Bombers.
10-5 loyd-W , Taylor-L

Tuesday, August 11 vs. Minnesota Twins
David vs. the Twins since the Perfect Game
and shuts them out.
7-0 Wells-W , Milton-L

Thursday, August 13 vs. Texas Rangers
Orlando Hernadez had already struck the side
out in the second but he would go on to pitch
8 1/3 scoreless innings as he broke the old
Yankee record for strikeouts by a rookie
pitcher with 13, three of which were Juan
Gonzalez in front of a capacity of about
54,000 people cheering him on.
2-0 Hernandez-W , Helling-L , Rivera-S

Sunday, August16 vs. Texas Rangers
Fourth game of the series, the Yankees
were beaten baddly yesterday 5-16 and
they were sore about it. It was a game
of homeruns as it should be on the
Babe's 50th Annerversery of his death.
The Yanks had chances to score runs in
every inning but failed many, with the
game tied in the late inning they had
great chances to score on a fly ball but
didn't. The game was tied bottom of the
ninth, Rangers' pitcher Hernandez had
struckout O'Neill and had to strikes on
Bernie until he swang at a low pitch and
sent it sailing 401' away into the upper-
deck in right. What a finish!
As the Yankees are 90-30.
6-5 Rivera-W , Hernandez-L
