My Ummah intro

Aynal ummah?
Where is the ummah?

Rabbana unsurna
Qawwina wahhidna
Ilayka iltaja’na
Our Lord help us
Make us strong and united
In You we have sought refuge

My Ummah
My Ummah, my Ummah
He will say, Rasulullah on that day
Even though we strayed from him and his way
My brothers, my sisters, in Islam
Let’s struggle, work, and pray
If we are to bring back the glory of his way
Ya Allah ya rabbal alamin
Ya Rahmanu ya Rahim, ya Rabbi
Let the Ummah rise again
Let us see daylight again, Once again
Let’s become whole again, proud again
Cause I swear with firm belief in our hearts
We can bring back the glory of our past

Look at where we were
And look at where we are, and tell me
Is this how he’d want it to be?
Oh no! Let us bring back our glory

MUHAMMAD (S)
Dedicated to the innocent children of Beslan (Russia)

Every day I see the same headlines
Crimes committed in the name of the divine
People committing atrocities in his name
They murder and kidnap with no shame
But did he teach hatred, violence, or bloodshed? No… Oh No
He taught us about human brotherhood
And against prejudice he firmly stood
He loved children, their hands he’d hold
And taught his followers to respect the old
So, would he allow the murder of an innocent child? Oh No
Chorus
Muhammad the light of my eyes
About you they spread many lies
If only they came to realise
Bloodshed you despise
Chorus

MAKE A PRAYER

O people
In a hut made of tin and clay
A small boy dreams away
Of clean water and a meal in a day
And not to fear mines as he plays
Each day
O people
Somewhere dark and out of the way
Aids has found yet another prey
To save his life he just couldn’t pay

Tell me what we’re going to do
For our brothers in Durban
For our sisters in Darfur
Show me what we’re going to do
Are we just going to sit there?
Nice and cosy on our armchairs
Will we not even make a prayer?

You might ask yourself
Why should I help these people?
They’ll tell you why
We’re not so different from you
We have dreams just like you
But they were buried with the bodies of our loved ones
O people
Are we deaf, dumb, and blind?
What is going through our minds?
Don’t we care for the rest of mankind?
O people
We claim to love peace and justice
Why do we preach what we don’t practice?
Let’s help them out of this darkness
Tell me what we’re going to do
For our brothers in Ethiopia
For our sisters in Rwanda

Moj prijevod na bosanski:

Učimo dove

O, ljudi

u kućercima napravljenim od lima i blata
Dječačić sanja
O čistoj vodi i obroku svaki dan

O, ljudi
Negdje zanemarena i u zabiti
SIDA je našla još jednu žrtvu
Da spasi svoj život, on prosto nije mogao da plati

Reci mi: šta ćemo uraditi
Za našu braću u Durbanu
Za naše sestre u Darfuru
Pokaži mi, šta ćemo učiniti
Zar ćemo samo sjediti tamo?
Lijepo i ugodno u našim naslonjačima

O, ljudi
Zar smo nijemi, gluhi i slijepi?
O čemu razmišljamo?
Zar ne brinemo o ostatku čovječanstva?
O, ljudi
Mi tražimo ljubav, mir i pravdu
Zašto vazimo o onome što ne činimo?
Hajde, pomozimo im da izađu iz tame

Reci mi šta ćemo učiniti
Za našu braću u Etiopiji
Za naše sestre u Ruandi

EID SONG

Let us rejoice indeed
For this is the day of Eid
Chorus
Children are wearing new clothes
Bright colours fill the streets
Their faces full of laughter
Their pockets full of sweets
Chorus
Mosques are full of worshippers in rows straight and neat
Their Lord they remember, his name they repeat
Their hands are raised to the sky
They supplicate and plead
On this blessed day, forgive us they entreat
Chorus
People are giving charity
And helping those in need
In giving they’re competing
Today there is no greed
Chorus
Enemies embracing each other
All hatred is buried
Everyone is celebrating
Greeting everyone they meet

Bajramska /Eid song; Lyrics: Bara Kherigi/

Hajde, uistinu se razveselimo
Na ovaj Bajram

Djeca nose novu odjeću
Svijetle boje popunjavanju ulicu
Njihova lica su puna smijeha
Njihovi džepovi puni slatkiša

Džamije pune vjernika u safovima, pravim i uređenim

Ljudi daju sadaku
I pomažu onima koji su u potrebi
Natječu se u davanjima
Danas nema pohlepe

Zavađeni grle jedni druge
Sva mržnja je pokopana
Svi proslavljaju
Čestitaju svakome koga sretnu

FREE

What goes through your mind?
As you sit there looking at me
Well, I can tell from your looks
That you think I’m so oppressed
But I don’t need for you to liberate me

My head is not bare and you can’t see my covered hair
So you sit there and you stare
And you judge me with your glare
You’re sure I’m in despair, But are you not aware
Under this scarf that I wear, I have feelings, and I do care
So don’t you see?
That I’m truly free, this piece of scarf on me
I wear so proudly, to preserve my dignity, my modesty, my integrity
So don’t judge me, Open your eyes and see

‘Why can’t you just accept me?’ She says
‘Why can’t I just be me?’ She says
Time and time again
You speak of democracy
Yet you rob me of my liberty
And all I want is equality
Why can’t you just let me be free?

For you I sing this song
My sister, may you always be strong
From you I’ve learnt so much
How you suffer so much
Yet you forgive those who laugh at you
You walk with no fear
Through the insults you hear
Your wish so sincere
That they’d understand you
But before you walk away
This time you turn and say:
But don’t you see?
That I’m truly free, this piece of scarf on me
I wear so proudly, to preserve my dignity, my modesty, my integrity
So let me be, she says with a smile ‘I’m the one who’s free’

My translation of previous nasheed on Bosnian

Moj prijevod na Bosanski jezik:

Slobodna

Šta ti prolazi kroz misli?
Dok sjediš tamo i gledaš me
Dobro, mogu zaključiti iz tvojih pogleda
Da misliš da sam potlačena
Ali ja ne tražim da me oslobađaš
Moja glava nije otkrivena i ti ne možeš vidjeti moju pokrivenu kosu
Zato sjediš tamo i buljiš
I osuđuješ me ljutito

Zato, ne osuđuj me, otvori svoje oči i progledaj
"Zašto me jednostavno ne prihvatiš?"
Uvijek iznova i iznova

MOTHER

Blessed is your face
Blessed is your name
My beloved
Blessed is your smile
Which makes my soul want to fly
My beloved
All the nights and all the times
That you cared for me
But I never realised it and now it’s too late
Forgive me
Now I’m alone filled with so much shame
For all the years I caused you pain
If only I could sleep in your arms again
Mother, I’m lost without you
You were the sun that brightened my day
Now who’s going to wipe my tears away
If only I knew what I know today
Mother, I’m lost without you

Du'a (Turkish)

Ne guzel yaratmissin nimetlerini
biz kullarina ey Yuce Allah
Nasil sukredelim verdigin bu kadar
ihsanlarina ey Yuce Allah
How beautiful are the blessings
You’ve bestowed upon us your servants O mighty Allah
How can we ever thank You
for all the bounties you’ve bestowed upon us O mighty Allah

CHORUS:
Her zaman ismin dilimizde ey Allah, ey Allah
Her zaman askin kalbimizde ey Allah, ey Allah
Your name is always on our tongues
Your love is always in our hearts

Biz gunahkar, biz perisan,
Sen Rahimsin, hem de Rahman
Aglarim, yalvaririm,
Bagisla bizi...
We are reckless sinners
You are most merciful and most compassionate
I cry and implore You to forgive us

Kendimize yazik ettik,
Hak yolunda hata ettik,
Aglarim, yalvaririm,
Bagisla bizi...
We’ve wronged ourselves
From the way of truth we have strayed
I cry and implore You to forgive us

Nikada se nećemo predati

Munajat (Arabic)

Wahdi fi dhulmati layli
Fi wahshati darbi
Hammi yuthqiluni
Dhanbi yu’limuni
Alone, in the darkness of my night
In the loneliness of my path
My worries weigh me down
My sins pain me

Wahdi, ad’uka wa arju
Min dhanbi ashku
Mali siwak
Ana fi himak
Alone, I supplicate to You and I hope
From my sins I complain
I have no one but You
I am at Your door

CHORUS:
Farham ‘abdan najak
Ya Allah, ya Allah
Anta alraja
Minka alhuda
Ya Allah, ya Allah
So forgive a servant who intimately calls You
O Allah, O Allah
You are all hope, From You is guidance
O Allah, O Allah

Rabbahu hudak
Ma ziltu asir
Wa’alal ‘isyan
Ma ‘udtu qadir
Fa’anir durubi
Waghfir dhunubi
Fa’anal faqir
O Allah give me your guidance
For I am still imprisoned
Of disobedience I am no longer capable
So illuminate my paths and forgive my sins
For I am poor and in need of You

Qad ‘adal qalbu
Fiddarbi yasir
Farihan mushtaqan
Lillahi yatir
Wa rajahu ridhaka
Yawma liqaka
Antal qadir
My heart has returned to walk on the path
Full of joy and longing, flying to God
And its only hope is gaining your pleasure
On the day of meeting You
You are the Omnipotent

CHORUS

Try Not To Cry

You, you’re not aware
That we’re aware
Of your despair
Don’t show your tears
To your oppressor
Don’t show your tears

CHORUS:
Try not to cry little one
You’re not alone
I’ll stand by you
Try not to cry little one
My heart is your stone
I’ll throw with you

Isam:
‘Ayn Jalut where David slew Goliath
This very same place that we be at
Passing through the sands of times
This land’s been the victim of countless crimes
From Crusaders and Mongols
to the present aggression
Then the Franks, now even a crueller oppression
If these walls could speak,
imagine what would they say

For me in this path that I walk on
there's only one way
Bullets may kill, bones may break
Still I throw stones like David before me and I say

CHORUS

You, you’re not aware
That we’re aware
Of your despair
Your nightmares will end
This I promise, I promise

CHORUS

Lenny:
Don’t cry, don’t lose faith
The one who made water come out of the sand
Is the one who quenches the thirst
And you who rise proud from between the stones
Have made oceans from this dust

Waqas:
I throw stones at my eyes
’cause for way too long they’ve been dry
Plus they see what they shouldn’t from oppressed babies to thighs
I throw stones at my tongue
’cause it should really keep its peace
I throw stones at my feet
’cause they stray and lead to defeat
A couple of big ones at my heart
’cause the thing is freezing cold
But my nafs is still alive
and kicking unstoppable and on a roll
I throw bricks at the devil so I’ll be sure to hit him
But first at the man in the mirror
so I can chase out the venom

Isam:
Hmm, a little boy shot in the head
Just another kid sent out to get some bread
Not the first murder nor the last
Again and again a repetition of the past
Since the very first day same story
Young ones, old ones, some glory
How can it be, has the whole world turned blind?
Or is it just ’cause it’s only affecting my kind?!
If these walls could speak,
imagine what would they say
For me in this path that I walk on
there’s only one way
Bullets may kill, bones may break
Still I throw stones like David before me and I say

CHORUS

AL-MU´ALLIM

We once had a Teacher
The Teacher of teachers,
He changed the world for the better
And made us better creatures,
Oh Allah we’ve shamed ourselves
We’ve strayed from Al-Mu'allim,
Surely we’ve wronged ourselves
What will we say in front him?
Oh Mu'allim...

Chorus
He was Muhammad salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam,
Muhammad, mercy upon Mankind,
He was Muhammad salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam,
Muhammad, mercy upon Mankind,
Teacher of all Mankind.
Abal Qasim [one of the names of the Prophet]
Ya Habibi ya Muhammad
(My beloved O Muhammad)
Ya Shafi'i ya Muhammad
(My intercessor O Muhammad)
Khayru khalqillahi Muhammad
(The best of Allah’s creation is Muhammad)
Ya Mustafa ya Imamal Mursalina
(O Chosen One, O Imam of the Messengers)
Ya Mustafa ya Shafi'al 'Alamina
(O Chosen One, O intercessor of the worlds)

He prayed while others slept
While others ate he’d fast,
While they would laugh he wept
Until he breathed his last,
His only wish was for us to be
Among the ones who prosper,
Ya Mu'allim peace be upon you,
Truly you are our Teacher,
Oh Mu'allim..

Chorus
Ya Habibi ya Muhammad
(My beloved O Muhammad)
Ya Shafi'i ya Muhammad
(My intercessor O Muhammad)
Ya Rasuli ya Muhammad
(O My Messenger O Muhammad)
Ya Bashiri ya Muhammad
(O bearer of good news O Muhammad)
Ya Nadhiri ya Muhammad
(O warner O Muhammad)
'Ishqu Qalbi ya Muhammad
(The love of my heart O Muhammad)
Nuru 'Ayni ya Muhammad
(Light of my eye O Muhammad)
He taught us to be just and kind
And to feed the poor and hungry,
Help the wayfarer and the orphan child
And to not be cruel and miserly,
His speech was soft and gentle,
Like a mother stroking her child,
His mercy and compassion,
Were most radiant when he smiled

Chorus
Abal Qasim [one of the names of the Prophet]
Ya Habibi ya Muhammad
(My beloved O Muhammad)
Ya Shafi'i ya Muhammad
(My intercessor O Muhammad)
Khayru khalqillahi Muhammad

Sami Yusuf was born in the month of July 1980. He was born into a musical family of Azeri origin and thus music played an integral part in his life. Sami’s
initial training came from his father, who is an internationally renowned composer, poet, and a multitalented musician.

Sami grew up in London and learnt to play several instruments at a very young age and gradually began to show a keen interest in singing and composing.
He studied music at several institutions and with renowned composers and musicians including composers from the Royal Academy of Music in London,
one of the world most prestigious music institutions.

Sami has been composing from a very young age and his beautiful voice is supplemented by his extensive knowledge of notes and harmonies. He has
also a good understanding of music theory and the Middle Eastern modes (or Maqams).

Indeed, it is rare to find a person who has all these talents. Sami is also a devout practicing British Muslim who sees songs as a means of promoting the
message of Islam and encouraging the youth to be proud of their religion and identity.
