So easy to stand in the pouring rain
And let the tears flow at their will
But where do I go with this heart-breaking pain
When the sunlight shines on tears as they spill?
And how do I go on with my life again
When God took you but I need you still?

How do I face every long, lonely day?
I can't sleep when you don't hold me tight
And when people ask me, then what can I say?
All my days are as black as the night
Yet I dare not put everything out on display
You are there in the poems I write

Is there no way of getting to where it began?
(Though sometimes I wish it had not)
And if we're all part of some heavenly plan
Was your leaving just part of the plot?
Then perhaps I should thank God for giving this man
All the blessings I lately forgot

It's after the rain that I fall to my knees
And I hold back the tears as I pray
"My lady is now in your hands, if you please
And I'm missing her each lonely day
But I know that you took her quite simply for she's
Like an angel in every sweet way"
