Biography and Other Facts
Jane Austen was born in 1775, in Hampshire, England. She was the seventh child of her parents. Jane was educated mostly by her father. Even as a young girl, she enjoyed writing stories. In 1801, at age 26, she moved to Bath with her family and lived there until her father died. She and her mother then moved to Chawton, Hampshire, and she lived there the rest of her life. She never married, and in 1817, she died.
Jane Austen's books are widely read and studied. Four novels were published in her lifetime, and two after she died. A few uncompleted works remain as well, and also a short novel written entirely in letters.
