Louisa May Alcott
Biography and Other Facts
Louisa May Alcott was born in 1832 in Pennsylvania. She and her three sisters grew up under their fathers unique teaching ideas. Bronson Alcott, their father, founded a school based on his thoughts, but it began to fail. Louisa needed to find a way to support her family, and so she began writing stories and selling them to magazines.
She is best known for writing Little Women, published in 1868. It is still a favorite classic book. Many other books followed, and most are still popular today. She died in 1888.
