"Mr Green's Island"

Island of Green.

Green of mist
Of history
Drifts across the island.
Veiling graves.
Ocean spray
Of memory
Drowns out
The wailing in the waves.
Where man ate man
Barbecues burn beef.
Ghosts, like garbage,
Are washed beyond the reef.
Now, from boardwalk bored talk,
At long, long last,
Mr Green has taken flight.
Unless you hear, so faint as not to be,
A whispered 'save me' in the nig
ht.
