 Cedar 2

Cedrus Libani var. Brevifolia

  -  the Cypress Cedar

Created from nursery stock several years ago, the tree stands 21 inches high.  The roots have a bulge at the base where the plant was allowed to grow around the original pot, but this is gradually being reduced.

The natural small needles and compact foliage make this a wonderful material to work with, since it looks good in a very short time.

The plan for the near future is to remove the lower branches and possibly to plant on a slab or old roof tile to enhance the impression of the landscape.

Planned change to tree in near future

Created from nursery stock and trained for ten years.  Although not a classic bonsai shape, the style is very much like Cedars as they grow in parks in the UK.  The needle size was always good, but now branch structure is beginning to be achieved.  The old branches are very brittle and any wiring and bending must be done with great care to ensure that the wire is taking the strain of bending.  It is unlikely that the graft will ever become un-noticeable, and the tree shape is not a classic, but the new growth shines like flowers against the old needles.

The pot was made by Brian Albright.
