Habitat

Found along rocky shores with other of its kind. Tropheus moorii can be found in the south parts of the lake.

Behaviour and reproduction

This Tropheus is about 12 cm, but the females often is smaller. See breeding for more information about reproduction.

In the aquarium

Requires a spacious tank with secure rock formations. Also requires a number of fish of its own kind. However, new specimens will not be accepted. Water should be around 25 °C. Varied diet of vegetation a must.

Tropheus moorii "Chipimbi"

This photo is from Aquarium Malawi. It was a group wildcaught fishes that were for sale.

Tropheus moorii "Chipimbi"

The same group as above hiding under a rock.

Tropheus moorii "Chipimbi"

The same group as above. Look how similar they are with the T. moorii "moliro".

Tropheus moorii "Golden Kalambo"

One of a pair "Golden Kalambo" that came to Sweden. Isn't the fish at this photo stunning?

Tropheus moorii "Golden Kalambo"

The other individual of the pair. I usually don't like pictures with handheld fishes, but this fish is so special.

Tropheus moorii "Livua"

A very dark Tropheus. Photo taken at my friend Ubbe's place.

Tropheus moorii "Livua"

A picture of the same wildcaught group. I think the T. moorii "muzumba" in the aquarium next to this was more beautiful.

Tropheus moorii "Moliro"

This "Moliro" is extremely red. But when you realise that Roger Persson own it, it isn't strange ;).

Tropheus moorii "Mpulungu"

Also a fishphoto taken at Roger Perssons home.

Tropheus moorii "Mpulungu Sunset"

The trade name is "Mpulungu Sunset" but I don't see so much difference from the ordinary "Mpulungu".

Tropheus moorii "Murago"

A fish from my first wildcaught group. This is probably a male.

Tropheus moorii "Murago"

I got 30 fishes from Aquarium Malawi, Sweden.

Tropheus moorii "Murago"

They are not the most colourful Tropheus, but I really like the dots on the head.

Tropheus moorii "Muzumba"

A very nice red Tropheus. I have 20 juveniles from this group.

Tropheus moorii "Muzumba"

The big male is one of the most beautiful Tropheuses I have ever seen.

Tropheus moorii "Kachese"

One of Ubbe's Tropheuses. A little bit darker than usual.

Tropheus moorii "Kachese"

A "Kachese" from Aquarium Malawi. Much brighter as the usually look.

Tropheus moorii "Kalambo"

A very bad picture of the "Kalambo". They got to bright on this one

Tropheus moorii "Kalambo"

T. moorii "Kalambo" is the normal form of T. morii "Golden Kalambo" mentioned above.

Tropheus moorii "Kasabae Moliro"

Young fishes that have the potential to be very red when the get bigger.

Tropheus moorii "Katoto"

A group of young fishes for sale. You can clearly see the stripes that juveniles have.

Tropheus moorii "Katoto"

A fish that looks very much like the T. moorii "Mpulungu".

Tropheus moorii "Red Chaitika"

I saw it in a shop and just took a picture of it so you could get an image of it.

Tropheus moorii "Golden Chisanse"

I picture Aquarium Malawi sent me. A very red fish. I have never seen it in real life.
