This week we are taking a break from our normal episodes to bring you a special behind the scenes look at “Barbie Roswell Theater”
Many people believe there is not much depth or symbolic meaning to be found in "Barbie Roswell Theater". Well they are truly mistaken. Take the following scene for example. I bet most of you thought this was just a normal picture of fireworks. Actually, our special effects department felt average fireworks could not truly represent the intense passion and explosive nature of the Max and Liz relationship. In reality, this is an artist’s representation of the “Big Bang Theory” that formed the universe. It was taken from an encyclopedia science yearbook. Makes you think twice doesn’t it?
Sometimes on the set we need to make height adjustments to best film the scene. Our prop department goes all out to make sure even those items which are not seen represent the spirit of the show. In this case the height of the locker was adjusted by using a stack of "Roswell High" books and "Barbie Bazaar" magazines.
Sometimes we need to re-shoot a scene to better represent the tone the writers are trying to convey. This was the original scene from HP Dreamhouse (aka: the Heatwave episode).
We later re-shot the scene using a different outfit. At first Barbie felt the lingerie was too revealing. However after we explained that the lingerie was really an external representation of the true internal nature of the character of “Liz”, she was all for it!
People often ask, “Is there anyone else in the Barbie Roswell Theater cast besides Max and Liz?” Rest assured they are waiting in the wings for their chance to shine. Here are “Michael” and “Maria”. Right now Maria is working on Michael’s hair to make sure it will be just right when they make their debut.
And here are “Alex” and “Isabel”. While they are waiting, they’ve been told to practice for kissing scenes which may or may not take place in the future, may or may not be in a dream sequence, and may or may not be with each other. Oh well, on another note, doesn’t Isabel have a really cool outfit?
Another question people always ask is, “Just what is Ken really like?” Well let me tell you, he is a really great guy! Ken wakes up early every morning and runs out to the donut shop to buy donuts for the entire cast! How nice is that? Here is Ken right now having a donut and sharing a joke with “Kyle” at the refreshment table. Alex and Isabel are just hanging out in the background, part of the friendly atmosphere that is always present on the set.
Speaking of donuts, people have been wondering, “Is something going on between Barbie and Ken in real life?” Well folks, that’s all part of the movie magic we bring to you at "Barbie Roswell Theater". To create that amazing on-screen chemistry, before each scene Barbie eats a bite of Ken’s favorite donut and Ken takes a sip of Barbie’s favorite mocha cappucino.
It’s the lingering scent of coffee and donuts that creates the incredible look of longing and hunger we see between “Max” and “Liz”. Now if someone can figure out how to market that combination as we did, they will have a virtual gold mine!
Well that’s all for now…Tune in again when we bring you the next episode of “Barbie Roswell Theater”
The End
