Tulip
(devoted love)
< Previous----Catalog>
Tulips legendarily sprang from the blood of a lover and represent avowed love.
In their native Persia, the blossom is always scarlet red, and the center
deep black. When given by a man to his beloved, the red is said to symbolize
his face, warm with devoted affection, and his heart, consumed like a black
coal that is the center of the flower. In 17th C. Europe, tulips were traded
like a currency for great sums of money. In early America, their value was
commemorated in many quilt patterns. Today they are still a beautiful harbinger
of spring and a symbol of devoted love. Made from glazed red earthenware clay,
the back of this limited edition piece displays the artist's signature stamp
and the LQP chop mark. Left 2" high, right 1 3/8".
