Scraps on the trail

Today's Date: June 8, 2004
What's the Weather Like? It is hot and humid!
Draw the tracks you find in the space below:

Name of the animal: Racoon

Facts about the animal:
The raccoon is reddish or brown on its upper body and brownish or grey below. It is disguished by a big bushy tail and a black mask outlined in white on its face! It is native to most of the United States and Canada. It's habitat is open forests, coastal marshes and along river banks. Raccoons make hollow trees or logs their homes and sometimes will raise their young in the burrows of other animals. They eat grapes, fruit, crickets, bird eggs, small mammals and they can be seen often washing their food. Winters are hard for them as it is not easy to find they food they thrive on. The tracks of this animal are paired, having one rear foot beside one front one. The raccoon has five toes and usually the claw marks are evident in the print. The hind foot makes a print in which the toes and heel pad are joined whereas the front tracks toe and heel pad have a brief space between. The print vaguely resembles that of a miniature bear.
