Actually started playing a lot of guitar lately. Learned a few Dashboard Confessional songs, and in the process of figuring out "Blue Boy" by Texas Is The Reason. My current favorite song in the world! If you're into either of these bands give me an email sometime....

Latest download on Aimster: Alicia Keys - Falling
For Squirrels, Jstns' current favorite band! Its a shame tragedy always strikes the beautifully creative ones. If you're not following me, refer to the 06.01.01 entry. I feel some kind of connection to this band. Stronger than I do to most. And its sad to know that I'll never hear anymore of Jacks songs or words. But Im inspired by what I have. And hope to move on it and create. Maybe I will soon. Or maybe Im just too dramatic about music...nah, what in the world Im I thinking?! For Squirrels forever! Yeepee! (In addition: squirrels themselves are pretty cool too)

Latest download on Aimster: Front Line Assembly - Justify My Love
Been listening to a lot of Dinosaur Jr lately. Especially the Hand It Over album. An album I would easily say is one of the best ever made. Theres something about the sound, the vocals, the riffs, the artwork, just everything. His guitar playing is phenominal, seeing him at the Cow Hause doing his work was awesome. The solos he plays sound so good, not your typical "1 minute who cares if it sounds good show off solo". You'll have to just pick up one of their albums if you have no idea what Im talking about and you'll soon see. But Im really wanting to see J Mascis play agian. I hope he comes back around soon.

In the CD player right now: Hum - You'd Prefer An Astronaut
Latest download on Napster: The Assistant - Isabelle Hates Charlie
As you may have read in yesterdays journal entry, Im finding a lot of new music on Napster these days. I mean really great stuff. *The Assistant, Spirit of Versailles, Hopesfall, Brandtson, Casket Lottery, Camber, Grace Like Winter, Camden*. Actually Brandtson wasnt a new discovery, Scott has let me hear quite a bit of them but here lately Ive really started to dig it. Brandtson's "Days End" is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard. I've also been downloading a lot of Braid. Just some really great music, you know. If you know of some bands I should hear email me at ivy_holocaust@yahoo.com and let me know. Thanks...

Latest download on Aimster: Elton John - Rocketman
I think Im becoming an Elton John fan as crazy as that may seem. Lol. Not so much his newer stuff but the old ones. I've downloaded half of Rocketman so far, and it rocks. Ive heard some other really good ones before but I dont remember any of the names. Im searching though. If you know any of the good ones email me and let me know.

Latest download on Aimster: Self - So Low
August 2001 edition of Metal Edge has some pretty cool news in it. First being this, Les Claypool has formed a new band with Police Drummer Stewart Copeland and Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio called Oysterhead. Im expecting some really crazy music and as always with Les, some very mind-blowing basslines. The second cool tidbit of news is Alice In Chains members Sean Kinney and Mike Inez have formed a new band with Sponge lead singer Vin Dombroski and ex-Queensryche guitarist Chris DeGarmo. The band is called "Spys4Darwin". They've been selling a six-song EP on their site, Spys4Darwin. The album is called "Microfiche" and should be released in stores courtesy of their label the Pied Piper pretty soon. Keep your eyes and ears open.

In the CD player right now: For Squirrels - Example
Latest download on Aimster: White Zombie - More Human Than Human
I just found out something really awesome about one of my favorite bands! For Squirrels had two albums out before Example. They are called Baypath Rd and Plymouth. Im sure they're going to be hard to find. It took a while for to find Example. I bought that album in 96, a year after it came out. Its awesome. Im gonna do my best to find those other two albums though. Maybe I can find a place to download them off the net. For those of you who dont know... For Squirrels arent together anymore. On September 8, 1995, the band and manager were on route from New York where they just played CBGB's to their home in Florida. While traveling I-95, about 50 miles from Savannah, their van blew a tire and flipped. Singer Jack Vigliatura (21), bassist Bill White (23), and tour manager Tim Bender (23) all died at the scene. It's really sad that these guys with so much talent had to leave so soon. But they spent their time well and made some really great, unforgettable music. The rest of the band got a few friends together and started a new band. They're called Subrosa. They're pretty good too. Check them out...

In the CD player right now: Staind - Break the Cycle
Ive just downloaded a couple of the new Staind songs off of Aimster. Man, they're blowing me away. You can really hear their growth. The one that I just cant get enough of is "Warm Safe Place" but I also have "Open Your Eyes" and its really good too. Im glad we have a few good bands in the mainstream these days. For all of you that havent heard much of Staind you're really missing out. Go download some of the new songs... Some cool information about another band: Bad Religion's original guitarist and Epitaph founder Brett Gurewitz has rejoined the band. Bad Religion has also resigned with Epitaph. Hooray!

In the CD player right now: Mike Ness (at Woodstock 99)
Wow, Mike Ness is awesome. I never did get into Social Distortion when they were together, partly because I only heard a few songs and all. But his voice is killer. And these lyrics are cool too. Im guessing he's a recovering drug addict... The song I keep listening to over and over is "Dope Fiend Blues". I just cant get enough of it! But all the songs have a cool sound. Punk/country/rock. It's cool. This is actually my favorite band right this second, that changes daily though. I tried to get some stuff on Napster but they have it blocked. You can usually just spell something wrong and something comes up but not this time. Grr. Im going to keep trying anyways. If you have a Mike Ness album or Social Distortion get in touch with me and we'll work something out where I can get it from you off of Napster. Hmm, as I was writing this I went to MikeNess.com and they had some Social Distortion videos from earlier of this year so I guess they're still together, I didnt know that. But so far from what Ive heard Mike Ness' solo stuff was a lot better.

In the CD player right now: Tool - Undertow
For all of you that like Staind, I read that they taped a session of Unplugged for MTV. Its suppose to air July 26th. It should be pretty good. Ive always enjoyed the bands that have done those. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Live, Stone Temple Pilots. Those were great shows. Here's the Staind setlist for the show: Outside, It's Been Awhile, Fade, Home, Mudshovel, Epiphany (Aaron alone on acoustic)and Excess Baggage. This is the first time Excess Baggage has ever been played live. Im looking forward to this...

In the CD player right now: Candlebox - Lucy
I love Candlebox. Here lately I've been rediscovering some albums I havent listened to in a while and finding just how great they were. Lucy and the self titled album were masterpieces. Kevin's voice is incredible and not to mention the guitar playing and the basslines. They're truly breathtaking. Right now as I type this Im listening to "Drowning". This stuff has me speechless. I dont know what I could write to express what Im feeling right now. This is the kind of stuff I listen to. This is the kind of stuff I miss being in the mainstream, but thats okay. In my room this kind of stuff is played all the time so its not like it's gone. And Im sure there's still ppl in this world who dig this stuff. Dont really know anyone personally besides my good friend Scott. I connect with him in a lot of ways musically. Well, if you've never heard Candlebox or havent heard but a few songs, next time you have some money go spend it on one of the 1st two albums. I know they have a 3rd album out called "Happy Pill" but suprisingly I havent even heard it. But if its at all like this stuff Im sure its good too. Take it easy and send me an email if you're into this kind of stuff. I need someone to identify with... Hey did anyone see when Candlebox played woodstock? They rocked that festival hard...

In the CD player right now: Toadies - Rubberneck
I've been on a Toadies kick all week. Rubberneck was one of the best albums out of that '94 era. They capture so much emotion in their songs, you can really feel it. Me and a couple of friends actually performed "Backslider" on our local town square. It was the coolest performance I've ever had. I really wish we would've kept playing but I guess there's nothing I could've done about that. Especially now because Scott, the lead singer, is moving to north Georgia. I guess I could get with the other guys but it wouldn't be the same without Scott. He was into doing the same stuff as me. Eric's Trip, Screaming Trees, the Toadies, etc... The other guys really just wanted to do Christian songs which was cool but, you know. Back to the Toadies, I just downloaded a couple of songs off their newest album "Hell Below/Stars Above" and they're really good. I didn't even know this album existed until like forever after it was released. But I love this band so I'm gonna pick this CD up soon. Oh yeah, MTV premier of the new TOOL video is going to be Thursday, May 24, 2001. Click over there and check it out...

In the CD player right now: Dinosaur Jr - JayLouMurph
Weezer played SNL this Saturday, they played Hashpipe and some other song, not sure what that one was called. It really rocked. They reassured me that they're still a great band with plenty of songs left in them. I'll be getting this whole CD on Napster soon. Oh yeah and Will Farrell came out on the second song with them. He was all dressed up, it was funny! This Dinosaur Jr album rocks, all the songs are live so it's really cool. It's a pretty rare CD too, I never even heard of it until I saw it at a local music store. Of course I had to get it even though it broke me for the rest of the night. Oh well, it was worth it...

In the CD player right now: Elevator To Hell - Parts 1 to 3
Wow, Elevator To Hell is so awesome. The music seems so real, it's not all watered down with all this typical, retro-sound that so many records have. I've always liked a cheaper, dirtier sound. I'll have a place at the end of this where you can download one of my favorite songs, "Physically Unaddictive Mind Change" from me. If you have Napster just get some of their stuff on there, maybe you'd be into it. Their other album is called, "Eerieconsiliation". Scott and Pat, if you're reading this you would probably really dig this band. Onto something else, I read that STP is in the studio recording a follow up to No4. I can't believe it's been two years since that came out, time flies. I'm really looking forward to the next album. The last one didn't really do it for me so I'm interested to see which way this next one leads me. I wish they'd go back to that "Core" sound, as a matter of fact, I wish every band would go back to that mid-90's grunge sound...

In the CD player right now: Mogwai - Come On Die Young
My friend Patrick just reminded me that the new TOOL album came out today. I have to get it! I heard that one song that they're playing on the radio, I actually recorded it on a tape. If only I could find the tape...I'm sure the rest of the CD is just as awesome as that song was. TOOL never fail to deliver. Never forget that! LOL. I saw a new Weezer video called "Hash Pipe". It actually wasn't too bad but it's not like the Weezer I once grew to love. I noticed they had a new bass player too. I wonder what happened to the other guy...

In the CD player right now: Dinosaur Jr - Bug
I just read in the new May edition of Metal Edge that Chris Cornell is recording with Tom Morello, Brad Wilk and Tim Commerford but it isn't the new rage. The songs will be released under a different name. I'm really anxious to hear it, I miss the Chris Cornell that I used to hear in Soundgarden. And if it's anything like I'm expecting it's going to be in that same heavy vein.

In the CD player right now: Acid Bath - Paegan Terrorism Tactics
Donwloaded the whole Love Tara album by Eric's Trip on Napster the other day and it's really a great one. Every song is so awesome, I was pleasantly suprised. It's always good to find a band you haven't heard much of and realize every song they have you're into. I'm in the process now of getting the other albums and the albums that each member has with their other bands. I don't know what members are in what band but the other bands that tie in with them are Elevator, Elevator To Hell, Elevator Through and Orange Glass. Atleast thats all that I know of as of right now. If you can fill me in on just who is in which band that would be cool...
