Hey All! It's Red from IDKE here.
Have something about drag king culture or performance
that you want to talk about? Want to share your
expertise about an aspect of kinging with other king
and fans? Have artwork you'd like to submit for
display and/or discuss with other kings and fans? Have
a topic you'd like to explore in a group discussion or
workshop? Tell us! We're seeking submissions for
panel, workshop & presentation ideas for the Third
Annual International Drag King Extravaganza. We're
interested in hearing from you, whether you're a king,
a fan, a partner in crime, someone who studies drag
king culture, or any combination of the above. We are
also very interested in group proposals and workshops.
If you have an idea for a workshop or panel
discussion, please send a brief (500 word) description
to me, Alana/Red Rider, at alanalkumbier@yahoo.com by
Oct. 1. I'll also be happy to answer any questions
you may have.
cheers,
Red
Hey all you drag king loving superstars out there:
Here it is, the announcement you have been waiting for (drum roll, please):
The official dates for the Third International Drag King Extravaganza are:
Friday-Sunday, November 2-4, 2001!
This spectacular event will again be held in that suprisingly cool midwestern
American drag king mecca, known elsewhere as Columbus, Ohio. Following the
pattern of the enormously successful first two years of the event, the third
year is guaranteed to delight drag king enthusiasts of all persuasions. In
addition to the Dragdom (drag style karaoke), conference and workshops,
showcase performance and brunch, this years event will feature the first ever
IDKE drag king film fest. Registration materials for the event will be
available soon, Saturday night performance slots will go fast, so if you are
interested in performing, get us your address, etc so we can mail you a
pamphlet. Watch here for updates on our new and improved website. A call
for papers/workshops/films and presentations will also be mailed/posted
within the next month. So for now, mark your calendars and start stuffing
your piggy banks (do they make watermelon banks for vegetarians?!), you won't
want to miss this event. Until then...happy kinging!
Jake
PS We are looking for people from all over to help us promote the event by
becoming IDKE ambassadors. As an ambassador you will distribute promotional
materials about the event in your home town bars, coffee shops, GLBT
community centers, Universities, bookshops, etc. Please contact mel rupp at
mel_rupp@yahoo.com if you would like to become an ambassador (did i mention
you will get in free if you do this?).
For anyone who has not received a copy, and you would like a king zine that
covered the International Drag King Extravaganza in Columbus, Ohio last fall.
Please send $5 (to cover shipping and handling)

Hi all,
I've been invited to do a show in Nebraska in May and wondering if there are
any kings out there who are, or know of kings specifically from Nebraska.
Thanks.
Carlos Las Vegas
Apparently, a documentary about Drag Kings will air on MTV this may... including Denver's KINGZ of Zu Denver. If I get more info, I'll let you know.
