This is the question which you as a member of the commission or witness must answer in this commission hearing. In order to prepare for this hearing I want you to try out your ideas about this question on each other on this WWW post. Remember, use your roles, your handouts and class notes to make an informed statement about this difficult decision. ..
A foreign friend once asked me, "If you could be any nationality in the world, which one would you choose. " Seriously though, there is something about languages that draws me in like a moth into the fire. Well for French, it has been 8 yrs since i first entered that measly high school class. I spent 4 yrs in high school, going thru the ropes until my 4th yr French teacher whipped our class into shape. I have a lot of relatives porting that French passport so for a lot of things, I will have this tendency to be automatically prejudiced for French things.
The saving feature of this structure is that FM is rarely used on HF, so is not likely to be a problem. coupled direct conversion receiver, since only the extreme states are used; it is usually possible to avoid the hole in the response. The most important HF mode for communications is SSB, and this is the most easily demodulated mode for this class of receiver; even the phase ambiguity removal is not strictly necessary, although it is desirable in order to "phase out" and signal in the unwanted sideband. It would also make sideband selection easier, and facilitate the detection of DSB and SC-AM. The fundamental problem with this class of receiver is that the sidelobes available with practical digital filters are unlikely to be acceptable for a high performance radio system.
