felix GONZALES- TORRES look Throughout his short career, Felix Gonzalez-Torres created works that are relatively simple in construction yet rich in emotional content. Placed neatly in a stack on the floor, this untitled work is composed of hundreds of identical images of the sea. Following the death of his partner from AIDS, Gonzalez-Torres dealt with his own mortality in works that address our understanding of eternity. The sea, like eternity, is a mysterious entity about which very little is known. By depicting just a portion of the sea, he illustrates this reality, leaving the viewer to contemplate the more complex properties of his subject.
