Childress Statement Text
By The Associated Press,
Statement released Monday by Richard Childress, president of Richard Childress Racing Enterprises
Inc., on the death of Dale Earnhardt:
Words cannot express the tremendous loss all of us at Richard Childress Racing are feeling at this time.
All of our thoughts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with Martha, Teresa, Kerry, Kelley, Dale Jr. and
Taylor Nicole and the entire Earnhardt family.
Dale Earnhardt was much more than a race car driver. He was a very loving husband and a proud father
and grandfather. He was a successful businessman. He was also a hero to millions of racing fans throughout
the world.
Dale was my friend. We hunted and raced together. We laughed and cried together. We were able to
work side-by-side and have the success we had for almost 20 years because we were friends first.
I will miss him always. He was the greatest.
THE LAST RACE
He used to fly like the wind,
POEM COPYWRIGHT SARA WILLIAMS 2001!
"I Hope You Dance"
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
I hope you dance... I hope you dance.
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
I hope you dance... I hope you dance.
Dance... I hope you dance.
while he was racing.
But I didn't know then,
he would be part of a deadly wreck
He hit the wall hard.
They had to cut him out of his car.
He was in critical condition.
Now I guess he will fly,
to his home in the sky.
Dale, don't shed a tear at Rockingham.
I will cry for you.

You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances but they're worth takin',
Lovin' might be a mistake but it's worth makin',
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin' out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance... I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder
where those years have gone.)
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance... I hope you dance.
I hope you dance... I hope you dance..

Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder
where those years have gone.)
