SHELTER
Shelter
Away from the craziness
Of the rest of the world
Just a roof
But a protective
Covering
That holds me away
From your guilty as sin
Smile
You’re scary
Mask that hides so much pain
And you deny
You pretend
You nod your head
In sarcasm
You are hiding
fake
You are scary
You scare me
Not by action
But by your mood
I don’t know what to expect
When I am with you
How to hold myself
When I am away from you.
I feel as if
We are together
The only us
The us that still hides somewhere
Somewhere deep we reside
Away from each other
With only our souls showing you
Showing me
Showing each other
Who we are
In this craziness of
The rest of the world.
Away from you
I hold myself
As a separate person
You and me
We are not one
We are unique
Separate
Apart
Fate holds us together
Strength brings us apart.
This is a poem I wrote while family friends were going through a divorce.
