The Vegetarian Diet
What makes a cow any different then a cat? What makes a pig and different then a dog? Back before humans ever existed, we had animals. Animals took care of themselves in the natural way. There is not one good reason why humans should eat meat? Is it okay to eat other humans? Some might say yes, but the thought of eating another human turns my stomach and the same with animals.
When I first told my family I was going to be a vegetarian, they immediately started with the “food chain”. My mom kept on telling me that the “food chain” gives up priority over the animals. But, wait…humans created the food chain, right? So of course we would be on top. Just think, if a cow were to create the food chain…how different things would be. I personally just don’t like the taste of dead cow in my mouth. I don’t know, it just doesn’t really appeal to me. Or, having a dead pig slide down my throat, that really doesn’t excite me either.
I eat very healthy. I eat a lot of soy hamburgers and soy hot dogs. They seem to help keep my protein, vitamins and iron up. I don’t eat meat, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t get the vitamins and minerals that the meat gives me. I just happen to get my nutrients in other ways.
Since I became a vegetarian, my brother also has. My brother is 19, 6 foot 4 and eats more salad then he knows what to do with. My brother and I have a respect for animals that was instilled in us by our older cousins that I quit eating meat years ago. They taught us about not only respecting humans, but the world needs to start respecting animals as well.
In conclusion, the decision I made to become vegetarian when I was around 13 is the most positive thing I have done for myself. Not only am I healthier now, I am also a lot happier knowing that the food I put in my body never looked its killer in the eye.
