Hi Sal,
Remember what I told you about that great little voodoo bar in New ‘O? There are only about ten stools, really, really tiny. And the proprietor is this marvelous woman in her late fifties...middle size/right size with a blond flip, black cat-eye glasses and she is reading Edgar Cayce between customers. I loved that place. Kent and I dropped in for a drink everyday we spent in New ‘O.
Last night Nik (you know Nik? from St. Sabastian’s?) and I went up to Fabulous Freddie’s. Man, it was a washout. Off-duty cops acting as car attendants, and all of these groups of posers everywhere. We stayed about two seconds, didn’t even order a drink. We ended up at a border bar called K.C.’s Cabin, a tiny place, peeps of all ages, volleyball. It was very cool, felt good.
So anyway, today, over lunch, I was asking Kent how little places like the voodoo bar can make it. His answer:She had three video machines down the hall to the restrooms. The Mafia takes half, she pays her rent and overhead with the other half, and from the profits on drinks she buys Beat literature and dildoes.
Were we in the same bar? Good God, he’s a caustic man! He reality is so vastly different than mine. But he does enlighten me so it all works.
I’ve been going up to the lake about every other week. Are you planning a trip in anytime soon? I would Love, Love, Love to see you. It’s been too long. You can stay with me at Jim’s if you like.
Annie
