This stamp issue honors two heroes in the recent history of printing. Ottmar Mergenthaler (2¢ and $2 stamps) invented the linotype composer, a system which replaced hand-set lead type characters by a keyboard-driven system Chester Carlson ($1.20 and $1.35 stamps) invented the photo-copier using charged selenium drum. The designs are by the Government Printer, Inzander Berenku, and the stamps were printed by the Imperial Occussi-Ambeno Government Printing Office (KDPN) using a Mita DC-2585 press on paper with invisible gum.
