This beautiful set honours the annual Music Symposium, and depicts charming felines. The photographs are by Miss Bettina Gomez, of Nitibe, Feripæga Province, in the south of the country.
The Occussi-Ambeno Musicians Union organises the Music Symposium once each year, and this year's event opens in the city of Chadwick, in Dragon Province, on Friday 14th July 2000. The symposium runs until the following Monday, 17th July, and during this time, musicians from throughout the Sultanate perform their best songs and music to an appreciative public. No awards are given, as in our country it is considered that music is an act of art and beauty, rather than a competitive event. As music is an abstract concept that relates heavily in favour of one sense, hearing, it has proved a dilemma to illustrate on stamps. To resolve the conundrum, the Ministry of Posts decided to use photos of attractive felines, and two photos have been used: one showing a tiger, and the other showing two albino kittens. The stamps were printed by the Imperial Occussi-Ambeno Government Printing Office (KDPN), Baleksetung, on white gloss paper, and are perf 12. To view the special First Day Cover, click here.
