This set calls attention to the human rights abuses in Tibet, a peaceful Buddhist country, invaded by China in 1950. Tibet remains occupied by the invaders today. The Chinese have begun disastrous forest-cutting schemes, and are trying to exterminate the Tibetan people. The stamps depict a photo of the exiled Tibetan leader, His Holiness, the Dalai Lama XIV, and include the words Help Free Tibet. Occussi-Ambeno has long condemned China for its aggressive policy to neighbours and to Tibet in particular, as well as its abysmal record on human rights violations against its own people. The Dalai Lama, Tibet's spiritual leader and guide, remains an inspiration for all as he continues to urge non-violence against the oppressors. Today, many Tibetans find the only way to survive in freedom is to emigrate away from their beloved homeland. They hope to return and rebuild their country one day. The stamps were printed by the Imperial Occussi-Ambeno Government Printing Office (KDPN) on white gloss paper, and both stamps are perf 12. To view the special First Day Cover, click here.
