From Iceboats to Bridge

In October, the Prince Prince Edward Island Numismatic Association is hosting the Atlantic Provinces Numismatic Association's Fall Rally Coin Show. It will be at this event that the P.E.I.N.A. will release its new medal commemorating P.E.I.'s move into the new millennium. The "From Iceboats to Bridge" medal was designed by the association 's own president, Ralph Dickieson and club member, Ralph Bagnall and is being produced by Island Pewter Ltd., thus making it a truly beautiful piece of Prince Edward Island art.

This medal depicts the changes made during the last 200 years in the area of transportation between P.E.I. and the mainland. Crossings made during the winter in 1799 were perilously accomplished by iceboat; whereas 1999 crossings are safely completed by bridge. This is illustrated on the new medal by the Confederation Bridge stretching across the Northumberland Strait and towering over the early 18th century iceboats which are being pulled by courageous Islander's.This beautiful medal (available for a limited time and in limited quantities) will be available for sale to the public at the A.P.N.A. Fall Rally October 16, 1999 at The Confederation Center of the Arts in Charlottetown, P.E.I. They are also available through the mail by contacting the P.E.I.N.A.
