Beast Wars Easter Eggs

Nexus Zero

Such stuff as the appearances of Optimus Prime, Ravage, G1 Megatron, Unicron, etc., not included, as I feel those are blatantly obvious!

10/22/99: Recompiled the list together by episode, and did away with that limiting table format. May integrate the mistakes in with the eggs, but I'm not sure yet. Not sure if I'm going to do Beast Machines, because, so far, it's been pretty dry in the Eggs department.

The Beast Wars Easter Eggs

Easter eggs usually occur in the forms of tributes, and are often very well-hidden, so one usually doesn't catch them the first time around.

The Web

Starscream (jet). The beginning of Cheetor's dream sequence shows Starscream in Jet mode, displaying the Decepticon faction symbol quite prominently.

Equal Measures

Maximal Symbol on Scorponok's Missile. Watch Scorponok's missiles closely, it's there. All other times it's a Predacon symbol.

Double Jeopardy

Rattrap's Mock Salutes. Watch Rattrap in the cage when Terrorsaur introduces his "lieutenant."

Dark Designs

Wonko the Sane. Waspy sez it; the maintainer of the BW FAQ page!

Shrapnel Speech Patterns. While Waspinator is flying around thinking he's Shrapnel, he's actually speaking in the exact speech pattern Shrapnel used in the G1 series! He repeats the last syllable of the word at the end of each sentence.

Call of the Wild

Terrorsaurs' Powered-up rifle. During the hunting scene, instead of his usual pistol, Terrorsaur is using the rifle he had when he was souped-up in Equal Measures.

Possession

Primal's Shades. Just before Starscream is blown away, after Primal says 'Hastalavista, Starscream,' a set of sun shades drop down over Primal's eyes, ala Terminator.

Marijuana Leaf. Check out the top of Waspinator's center chestplate whenever we get a head shot of him, you can barely see it there.

Decepticon Symbols on Waspinator's head. You can see them on the side of his head while he's possessed by Starscream.

The Low Road

Megatron's face on Dartboard. In Tarantulas' lair, hanging on the wall, just before we see Scorponok.

Airazor on Primal's leg! Scene where Maximals break wall to Tarantulas' lab; wtf?!

Law of the Jungle

Naughty Fingers. Tigatron challenging Inferno in the final act (after Terrorsaur and Waspinator have been beaten); check out Dinobot and Primal back there...

Before the Storm

Starscream's Head. Trophy case, middle-left shelf, during Megatron's speech to Inferno.

G1 Megatron's Fusion Cannon. On the bottom shelf, same shot we see Screamer's head.

alt.toys.transformers. Mentioned twice; both mentions of a.t.t. by computer and Megatron.

Beyond Imagination. Megatron's speech to Inferno-- it's a web page.

Football Trophy. On top-left shelf, same shot we see Screamer's head

Bowling Pin. On the middle shelf, same shot we see Screamer's head

Megatron's Portrait. On the top shelf, same shot we see Screamer's head, it's of beast Megatron.

Other Voices, Part 1

"That which does not become part of the one shall become void.". Unicron making a startling echo of "Till all are one."

Other Voices, Part 2

Primal's Escape. You hear shattering glass as the stasis pod enters the machine (obivously, he was too late).

Primal's Head. For two frames only, you can see Primal's living, screaming head zoom by in space!

Aftermath

Quantum Surge. The radiation that the quantum surge sends down bears a startling resemblance to the cosmic rays that mutated the fantastic four. Again, there were four initial transmetals. not sure on how intentional this is but it seems more than coincidental. From NeoTrent.

Coming of the Fuzors, Part 2

Starscream's Head. Blackarachnia searching through Megatron's belongings, its on the lower right of the pile near the ducky.

"Where... all are one.". Rhinox reciting the Transformers: The Movie, catch phrase... sort of.

Maximal No More

Cheese on Rattrap's POV. During Rattrap's POV shot, a rotating cheese is in the lower-right corner.

Punching Bag. Scene in Dinobot's quarters in the beginning (practicing for Rattrap?!)

Dinobot's Rifle. Same as above, hanging on a wall (I guess he likes it?)

Dinobot Clone's Skin. Same as above, hanging on a wall (trophy?)

Other Visits, Part 1

Rock'em Sock'em Robots. The fist-fight between Inferno and Rhinox on the Axalon resembles the toys....

Code of Hero

Sword Collection. In Dinobot's quarters in the beginning scene.

'Sounds of Earth'. The writing is on the back of the Golden Disk, and it only appears just before Megatron uses his player.

"Tengu Sector". Cheetor makes a passing metion of this; a webpage of a regular from a.t.t.

Golden Disk over the sun. In the opening, when Dinobot stares at the sun, one can barely make out the Golden Disk.

Smashing the Flower. The scene where Rampage's foot lands and crushes a flower in the valley; this is a tribute to a Ray Bradbury story about time hunters.

The Missing Man Formation. The three ravens flying in the beginning. Primal, Cheetor, and Silverbolt do the exact same formation in the end, too.

Transmutate

Great Aunt Arcee. Rattrap says this line. Arcee is an Autobot from the original G1 series, and her voice actress did the voice of Transmutate, and is also the Voice Director for the series.

The Agenda, Part 1

Rampage's Missiles Symbols. Rampage about to fire on the Axalon: a jolly roger, an atomic, and peace (!) symbols. Nuclear Weapons + Death = Peace?

"Subsector Hooks". Megatron's order to Rampage; methinks its a reference to Hooksx.

Decepticon Symbol on Ravage's Shoulder. While Ravage has a Predacon symbol on his right arm, his left has the classic symbol.

The Agenda, Part 2

Ravage's Transformation. You can't miss it; transformation and old sound and all!

"Hot, poisonous, and deadly? You're sweet!". Blackarachnia in response to Silverbolt's observation of Blackarachnia and planet Venus. Seriously people, if anything this is a bow to Venus Terzo, the voice actress of the Widow herself. I think. ;)

The Agenda, Part 3

Diecast Construction. The line refers to the way the original Transformers toys were created. They weren't plastic.

'Jojo'. Blackarachnia calls Silverbolt 'Jojo' at one point.... He is subject to many dog-jokes, and there is an excellent little anime OAV called 'Jojo's bizarre adventure', starring a little speckled dog named Jojo.... From RedMage.

'The Stainless Steel Rat'. Rattrap makes a reference to the 'Stainless Steel Rat'... could this be a reference to a series of comedic sci-fi novels by Harry Harrison, starring a character known as 'the Stainless Steel Rat' From RedMage. (Someone else mentioned it was Bob Forward, Sr., and Bob Forward wrote the darn episode.)

Optimal Situation

Peacemaker Missiles. Rampage's missile with the peace symbol on it, which he tried to shoot Prime's spark with.

A new Optimus to play with. Megatron's line refers to the toy Optimal Optimus.

Changing of the Guard

Cheese on Rattrap's POV. During Rattrap's POV shot watching Inferno's missile, in the same place as last time.

Feral Scream, Part 1

"Zarak Sector". Refers to Zarak of Headmaster infamy (who incidentally was the Headmaster of Scorponok...).

"Tallories Sector". Refers to the owner of the Beast Wars Fanfiction Archives.

"Dacerin Sector". A regular on a.t.t. (got to catch that name again and I can't really verify where it was used).

Rubber Ducky. Floating around in Megatron's tub, of course.

Proving Grounds

Beast Wars Street Fighter. Optimus Primal does a Ryu against TM Megatron.

Waspinator Doom. Rattrap plays an interesting version of Doom....

Go With the Flow

"Joona Sector". A regular on a.t.t. (Joona Palaste)

Crossing the Rubicon

Anti-Maximal Symbol. It's on the missle of Tarantulas' BFG.

Rubber Ducky. Floating around in Megatron's tub, where else?

Master Blaster

'Master Blaster'. The title refers to a story of a dwarf who gained immense power, and this directly refers to Quickstrike.

Megatron's Collection. He makes a line mentioning he's collected the entire set; it actually refers to the toys....

Other Victories

The Nemesis. The image of the ship appears on one of Tarantulas' monitors.

Nemesis, Part 1

"Starbase Rugby". Refers to a Transfan's website called 'Rugby's Starbase' (of course)

Code "Msipher". One of the lucky members of a.t.t.

"Scylla". One of the lucky members of a.t.t., as well as a Beast Wars Second character (Space Pirate Seacons)

Nemesis, Part 2

Weapon Debris. Among the garbage floating during the tractor beam scene are Rhinox's chain gun, Blackarachnia's hook missile, and Depth Charge's shark gun.

Targeting Grid "3H". 3H Enterprises (aka the Hartmans) are the guys that run Botcon.

Convenant of Primus. Optimus makes a number of references in "Nemesis, part 2" to the original series, including "...light our darkest hour" (refers to Dinobot, echoes Prime's words), "stop Megatron, no matter the cost" (Prime said that in the movie). A good deal of the quotes from the book come directly (or modified quotes of) from the Bible (all of them except for the last quote about the 'darkest hour').

Beast Machines

Season 1

Fires of the Past

Predacon Language messages. Observed by Giedi Prime: "Well, I finally got my tape of the first 3 beast machine episodes, and lo and behold there is still writing in these episodes! Notably in Fires of the Past. So I broke out my trusty old Predacon font (Megs still writes in Predacon) and translated [ed: apparently it's an actual font]. All these appear on the screens around Megatron in his lair. The screen is between the camera and Megatron, so all messages were backwards.
In the upper right, the flashing red message says 'THESE FLOWERS TASTE FUNNY' In the lower left, the message says 'WE ARE THE HGANIMATORS FROM HGMAINFRAME'. I'm really not sure why it says HG. (It MAY say MG... the M and H look pretty similar... but neither makes too much sense to me).
In the middle of the screen is says 'ITS 18 TIME'. Not sure what this means.
And the last message, in the upper left, says... (wait for it)... 'IF YOU CAN READ THIS SEEK HELP'.

Revealations, part 1: Discovery

King Kong. During the fight sequence when Optimus is climbing the building he knocks over some aero-drones in King Kong fashion.

Gotta catch'em all. Other than another referral to the toy line, Jetstorm's line is the direct catch phrase of Pokemon.

Revealations, part 3: Apocalypse

Tonka Toys. Nightscream makes this line after taking out the tank drones. Tonka is a toy manufacturer (which I remember for big cars and trucks) now owned by Hasbro.

Message in the grass. There's two letters hidden in the grass just before the second commerical, when we see the overhead of Primal walking through the raining and grass area. When lightning strikes you can make out the letters 'B' and 'J,' likely someone's initials (I wouldn't be surprised).

Survivor

Preview Wireframes. While Diagnostics Drone is discussing the state of Megatron's body several screens pull up behind him, each possessing a wireframe model of future Vehicon characters that appear in Season 2. Watch for them!

Season 2

Sparkwar, part 2: The Search

Bad Moon Rising. The comment is in reference to classic rock: Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Bad Moon Risin'".

Grim and Gruesome. Blackarachnia says, "I thought we were going easy on the grim and gruesome!" which is likely directed at the higher-ups at Fox who wanted less violence in the show.

Spark of Darkness

Spark of Darkness. Obviously a reference to Heart of Darkness (and not Army of Darkness if you take heart and spark to be rough equivalents).

Big Mistakes

We know that Transformers is perfect, but sometimes the animators make... errors, some of which are terribly-glaring. These are NOT actual easter eggs, btw.

MistakeEpisodeWhen/Where
Old RattrapCode of HeroIn the lower-left corner, what should have been TM Rattrap is the old model
Transmutate's nameTransmutateRampage uttered Transmutate's name before he named her!
Robo-Primal's monkey feetVictory"Cheetor, get back to your post!" he says. Look down at his feet when he says that in the elevator
Tarantulas' missing eyesTangled WebsThe green spider eyes are missing from Chuckle's chest when he talks to himself while Quickstrike drools over Blackarachnia
Missing Wasp buttPossessionWhen Starscream is crawling away from Primal, his wasp butt is missing
The Double ArrivalComing of the FuzorsTarantulas and Waspinator arrive twice to the battlefield; they were supposed to come in part 2, but they arrived in part 1 as well!
Megacycle vs. Stellar CycleThe Agenda, part 1The Tripredacus general mentions Megatron's ship disappeared 'a megacycle ago.' Of course, the problem is, a megacycle is an hour.
How many fingers...?!Deep MetalDuring the battle with Rampage, when Depth Charge pulls out his gun, in one shot he's got another finger.
Split my Axalon...Optimal SituationDuring Primal's flyby, we see Rampage and the spider-bots dragging the Axalon-- it is already split in this shot, yet its intact in the next.
Switched LegsDeep MetalFor a brief shot during the water battle between Rampage and Depth Charge, Rampage has Depth Charge's legs.
Blackarachnia's DamageCrossing the RubiconBlackarachnia is blown up in the first scene. The next scene she's completely repaired. The scene after that she's been blown up again :P
Eyepiece on wrong sideNemesis, part 2Dinobot II's mechanical eye switches sides during the scene just before Tigerhawk gets zapped.
Reappearing WingNemesis, part 2Primal tore off his wing to get into Nemesis, but when he confronts Megatron the wing is back again.
Repaired DamageNemesis, part 2Primal's been maimed, burned, and generally beaten up, but after all is said and done he comes out of the battle without a scratch. WHAT?

Go back to Nexus Zero.
